Gertie's Story

Meet Gertie, the 6-pound, year-and-a-half-old little lady who is taking the world one cautious peek at a time. She may be small, but she's got a whole personality waiting to bloom for the right person.

Gertie is still learning that life is actually pretty great, and she's already making progress. Staff have been winning her over little by little, and she's started returning the favor with the softest, sweetest purrs. She's a cat who makes you work for it, and then makes it completely worth it.

When she's not perched on her cat tree or watching the world go by from her favorite window spot, she can be found quietly keeping an eye on the dogs from a safe distance (she's observant like that). She enjoys the company of other cats like Kitty and Caramelo, even if she likes to keep things low key and on her own terms for now.

Gertie doesn't need a loud or busy home. She needs someone patient, gentle, and willing to let her set the pace. Go slow, give her space, and one day she'll curl up and purr like she owns the place. Because honestly? She kind of will.

Pet Orphans of Southern California's Adoption Policy
Potential adopters may visit our Pet Orphans facility during operating hours as many times as they need to spend time with a pet they are interested in adopting. Applications for a pet may be submitted in-person at the reception office or through our website. Applications for a pet will be accepted until the best home for the pet is found ( NOT on a first-come, first-serve basis). Potential adopters will be notified of their application status anytime from 2 days to 2 weeks. If an application is approved, then the adopter can come to our facility to finalize. During finalization, adopters can expect to stay for 30 to 45 minutes to go over paperwork, sign the adoption contract, and pay the adoption fee. Pet Orphans also provides the option of applying for a foster-to-adopt. Foster applications must go through the same approval process, but approved fosters are allowed to take a pet home for 10 days to get a better sense of how a pet will acclimate to a household and lifestyle. After 10 days, foster must decide whether or not to finalize adoption.
