George's Story

Meet George - a gentle senior with a big heart and a soft place waiting for him.

George is a 12-year-old lovable senior whose world changed when his person, Charlie, passed away. In Charlie's Trust, he made one thing clear: he wanted his cats to be safe, cared for, and loved through Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions. When a relative reached out for help, we honored that request and brought George-and the other cats-into our care.

When George first arrived, it was clear he needed immediate medical attention. He was underweight, unsteady on his feet, and suffering from severe dental disease. Bloodwork showed inflammation and infection likely tied to his dental condition. We moved quickly, transferring him to our partner veterinarian for a full workup.

George is a fragile senior, and his care has required thoughtful, cautious decision-making. Because of his low weight and neurological issues, our veterinarian was not comfortable sedating him for dental surgery. Instead, George was started on antibiotics and steroids, with a plan to reassess while focusing on comfort, support, and weight gain.

During that time, George moved into foster care-and that's where we truly got to know him.

From his foster family:
George may be deaf (we're pretty sure he is), but it doesn't slow him down when it comes to love. If he can see you, he's running over for attention. He has been incredibly patient through nail trims, baths, dryers, and cuddles-and yes, spoiler alert: George is a total cuddle bug.

(And truly-if you watch his videos on Instagram (linked below), you will 100% fall in love. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe him!)

After two weeks on medication, George returned to Tropicana Animal Hospital for his recheck. He has gained a bit of weight, but he is still not strong enough to safely undergo dental surgery. Due to his age and neurological challenges, our veterinarian does not believe he will ever be a good candidate for dental procedures. Further diagnostics, like an MRI, would be invasive and stressful, with little benefit.

So, after careful consideration with our veterinary team, we made a decision rooted in compassion:

We are making George available for adoption-just as he is.

This does not mean George is being neglected. While George is with us, we will continue to provide any care needed to ensure he is comfortable, pain-free, and enjoying a good quality of life. If something is immediately necessary, we will act. But if the risks outweigh the benefits, we will choose kindness, comfort, and letting George simply be George.

And now, the greatest gift we can give him is a home.

George's ideal family will love him unconditionally, appreciate his quirks, and understand the beauty of senior cats. Once adopted, his family can make medical decisions on his behalf, always with the big picture in mind-comfort, quality of life, and love.

George doesn't need fixing.
He needs a soft place to land, a warm lap to curl into, and someone who sees him for who he is.

If you believe the best medicine is love, George is waiting.

George's Foster Instagram: www.instagram.com/purrfect.foster.kitties
