GELATO's Story

Brothers Gelato and Spumoni are a sweet and loving eight year old bonded sibling pair. Who found themselves in need of a new home due to no fault of their own.

Gelato (brown tabby) is the more outgoing boy and only takes a minute to warm up before he is nuzzling you and asking for pets with a loud purr. He is the quintessential lap cat and will race you to an armchair for his daily cuddles and will always choose scritches over treats. If you want a snuggle bug, he is your boy.

Spumoni (grey tabby with white) takes a little longer to feel safe and will likely hide initially, but he can be bribed with yummy treats or wet food. It only took him three days in my home before he too was accepting pets and starting to decompress, though it took almost three weeks for him to join his brother in my lap, and a month for him to start greeting me at the door every day instead of hiding. Earning his trust has been so rewarding, and he has turned out to be the even more affectionate half of the duo, always initiating social grooming with Gelato and with his trusted humans.

Rhode Island Feline Rescue's Adoption Policy
We have a very detailed Adoption Application as well as an adoption coordinator system. Once an application is received, it will be reviewed by the adoption coordinator, vet records confirmed, residence status, renting/landlord information, pet permission, and employment verified then the coordinator conducts an interview with the potential adopter. If deemed a good match, the adoption coordinator forwards the information about the potential adopter to the foster. If the foster also agrees then they will have a meet and greet. At the completion of the meeting, if both parties agree the cat/kittens is a good fit an adoption contract is signed, and the adoption fee paid. We do not adopt on a first come, first served basis. All the cats and kittens in our care receive the following: checkup, spay/neuter, rabies & distemper vaccines, de-worming medicine, flea preventative, microchip, and Felv/FIV test.
