Meet Frederick, the Tubby Turkey! <br/><br/>Frederick is an 8-year-old tabby with a very sweet face, gorgeous green eyes, and some serious big-daddy-cat vibes. You can't quite appreciate his size from his photos, but trust us: this boy is BIG. He's currently on a weight-loss journey, and his adopter will need to continue helping him shed those extra pounds. And now we know just how important that journey is for this big guy.<br/><br/>Frederick was recently diagnosed with Medial Humeral Epicondylitis, a condition similar to what humans call "golfer's elbow." It causes pain around the elbow in his front leg and has been causing him to limp. After consulting with multiple veterinarians and clinics, we've started Frederick on monthly pain injections and are continuing his weight-loss plan.<br/><br/>The good news? We have every reason to be hopeful. We believe that with continued pain management and getting Frederick back to a healthy weight, his pain and symptoms should be significantly reduced and may potentially resolve entirely. As he gets more comfortable, we also expect to see some changes in his behavior.<br/><br/>Frederick can become overstimulated during petting and sometimes gives a warning nip when he's had enough. We've always suspected that there was more going on than simply having a particular set of boundaries, and now that we know he's dealing with pain, we believe his discomfort is likely contributing to some of his grumpier moments. As his pain improves, we suspect he may become much more tolerant of handling and may no longer get overstimulated the way he does now. Of course, his adopter will still need to pay attention to his cues and give him space while he's healing.<br/><br/>When Frederick is first getting to know someone, he needs time and room to figure them out. But once he trusts you, he becomes a chill, affectionate guy who loves chin scratches, headbutts, and hanging out with his people. And once he REALLY trusts you, you've got yourself a snuggly BFF. He'll let his trusted people pick him up, hold him, and even rub his belly. He's never mean, and even after one of his grumpy moments, he's quick to come back looking for more affection.<br/><br/>Frederick is also extremely food motivated. Perhaps a little too motivated now that he's on a diet. He loves his meals and may try to convince you that his weight-loss plan is simply a terrible misunderstanding. His adopter will need to stay committed to his diet, but the rescue will help him get started. Frederick will go home with weight-loss food to help his new family continue the plan.<br/><br/>He's done well with the other cat in his foster home and could potentially adjust to a cat-friendly dog with a proper introduction. Because Frederick is currently dealing with pain and needs a family willing to respect his boundaries while he heals, an adult-only home is likely the best fit.<br/><br/>Frederick is looking for a very special family. Someone who understands that he's not at his best right now, but is willing to see the sweet, affectionate cat underneath the discomfort. Someone who will stick with his weight-loss plan, keep up with his pain management, and give him the time and space he needs to feel safe and comfortable.<br/><br/>And the rescue wants to help make that possible.<br/><br/>Frederick's adoption fee is WAIVED, and the rescue will cover the cost of his next two monthly pain injections. He'll also go home with weight-loss food and a weight loss plan to help his new family get started.<br/><br/>This big guy has been through a lot, and now we're looking for the person who will help him reach the other side of it. Our hope is that with a healthier weight and good pain management, Frederick can finally feel comfortable in his own body and show everyone the loving, snuggly BFF we know is in there. <br/><br/>Frederick isn't looking for a family who expects him to be perfect on day one. He's looking for someone willing to help him feel better, earn his trust, and give him the chance to become the happy, comfortable cat he's meant to be.
