Franny's Story

Our dowager princess, Franny was rescued from a Brooklyn Glass Factory. She was too frail and underweight to be spayed or even vaccinated but look at her now! She has filled out and is enjoying the indoors as she recovers from the hard life she had led.

She is under the care of her vet and a loving foster and will be ready for adoption once her veterinary treatment is done. In the meantime, we would be pl eased to accept advance applications, We would consider a foster-to-adopt arrangement so long as the foster is able to commit to taking Franny to her vet appts in Park Slope.

Franny is on a special diet and she does not deign to eat dry food. But, other than that, she is easy.

She would make a loving companion to some lucky human or humans -- so long as they don't already have a cat. Franny does not think much of other cats.

NY Cat Warriors, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
We try to achieve a balance between protecting the cat's best interests and being accessible and welcoming to would-be adopters. After the initial inquiry, we send an adoption application to the would-be adopter that asks for basic info about the individual, household members, other pets, and lifestyle. We also ask about experience with cats, the living situation (rent/own, pet policies), and expectations so that we may match the cat to the adopter. Following NY law, we check the adopter's name against the NY Animal Abuser registry. We review the application and follow up with a phone call, FaceTime, or email to answer questions and discuss topics such as proper cat care, cat temperament, indoor safety, the transitional period, and behavioral issues. We arrange a "meet-and-greet" at the foster home or via FaceTime and conduct a home visit or virtual home check, ensuring that there are screens on windows, no toxic plants, and a place for the cat to feel safe. If we approve the adoption application, we ask the adopter to sign our adoption agreement, which sets out responsibilities (e.g., regular checkups, vaccinations, proper care, and return policy). We charge a reasonable adoption fee depending on the circumstances. When handing over the cat, we provide a familiar blanket or toys, some food, and vet records. We provide advice on introducing cats to new homes, other pets, or children, as necessary. Post-adoption, we check in via a call/email after 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months. Our return policy requires adopters to return the cat to us.
