Franklin aka Frankie *COURTESY POST*'s Story

Franklin (also known as Frankie) is a domestic short haired Siamese lynx point with white cross, neutered male cat who is estimated to be 2 years old as of fall 2025. Franklin was free-roaming an area in Pipestone, MN, and dumpster diving for food at a nursing home, and it took over a year to live-trap him. True to Siamese character, Franklin is extremely talkative and has a lot to say. Franklin is positive for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), but don't let this scare you off from adopting this handsome dude! If you are looking for a dog-like cat who will ride shotgun in your vehicle then Franklin is the cat for you!

FIV+ cats can live with other FIV+ cats if they are not dominant cats and there is no aggressive fighting over territory, space or food resources. The virus is transmitted mainly through deep bite wounds, and can be transmitted through mating and blood transfusions, but not through casual contact like shared food and water bowls, shared litterbox or co-grooming.

FIV+ cats need regular check ups, and prompt, consistent management of minor illnesses and health issues to avoid more expensive vet care later. Keeping Franklin stimulated and engaged with toys and car rides will help to reduce stress and decrease his susceptibility to illnesses.

Neutered; feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) positive; feline leukemia virus (FeLV) negative; current on rabies vaccination; feline distemper vaccination needs updating; dewormed; and litter box trained.

Franklin is OK with dogs, and not interested in playing with them or being besties, but he can co-exist with them. Ideal home for Franklin would be as an only cat with no children under 10 years old as he is easily overstimulated in play and can be a bit mouthy. Franklin is kept in his own room in his current housing situation as his loud presence is stressing the resident cats. Keeping Franklin confined to his own room has made it difficult to cat test him with other cats, although he has had some supervised visits with other cats and did pretty well. Frankie does seem to be a sociable cat that wants to be in the company of other cats.

Location: Minneapolis, MN, area but transport help available for the right home.

Far North Feline Rescue's Adoption Policy
Initial contact is usually made via email. Potential adopters are asked to provide basic information such as if they rent or own their residence; have any other pets in the household; have any children in the household; and if they are an established client with a veterinary clinic. Answers to these questions help us determine the best fit for them among the cats available for adoption. Then a meet and greet is set up for that cat in the foster home where more questions can be asked, and the adopter and cat interaction can be observed. Our adoption process is NOT that the first one to contact us is the one who gets to adopt the kitten/cat, and that can be difficult for certain potential adopters to accept. Our goal is to put the kitten or cat in the right home the first time. We allow for a 2 week trial period and the cat or kitten can then be returned to us without judgment and the adoption fee refunded.
