Frank Akela Bonded Pair Felv’s FAQs

What is Tuff Start Rescue’s adoption process?

-  Our rescue is run completely by volunteers. Please allow at least 24 hours for a response to your inquiries and 3 days for a response to applications! Our rescue animals are well worth the wait! - We are a foster based rescue so we do not have a shelter location to visit our adoptable animals at. Our rescue pets live in foster homes all over the twin cities and its suburbs. Not all animals are located in Blaine. - Since our rescue pets live in foster homes and meetings are done at the fosters private residence we do require an application be completed and approved before a meeting can be scheduled. - We do require home visits before adopting a pet. - To guarantee the safety and well being of our rescue pets, we do require all dogs/cats to live indoors. - Adoption fees for dogs include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, Rabies & DHPP (distemper) & Bordetella vaccinations, and he has been tested for Heartworm, Lyme Disease, Anaplasma and Ehrlichia - Adoption fees for cats include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, Rabies & PRC (distemper) vaccinations, and Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) tests. - All cats in the home at the time of adoption must be tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV). A negative test is required to adopt a FeLV - cat, and a positive test is required to adopt an FeLV+ cat. If your vet has this on file, it can be confirmed via phone call otherwise it must be emailed or faxed to us. - Cats adopted from our rescue must keep their claws. Declawing our rescue cats is strictly forbidden. Please review the following links for new research regarding declawing and the long term effects it can cause a cat. http://www.pawproject.org https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/05/170523124130.htm http://www.worldanimal.foundation/advocate/declawing-cats-causes-aggression-abnormal-behaviors Please note we will call your landlord to verify property policies and approval, so make sure you have this and know the rules prior to filling out an application. We also call veterinary references and our decision is often based on veterinary history of current and past pets. The future care of our rescue animals is our top concern and it is imperative they receive continued veterinary care by a licensed professional.
