Francine's Story

Meet Francine: A Devoted Solo SSRI-Girlie Who Has Done the Work

Francine is likely around 2 years old and is an affectionate, deeply loyal lap cat looking for a quiet home where she can finally be someones one and only.

Francine is a little neurodivergent but has found her way with an SSRI. She experiences the world more intensely than most cats and can become overstimulated, especially around other animals. After working with her veterinarian, she started daily Prozac, and it has been life-changing. She is calmer, happier, and finally able to relax and enjoy being close to people.

Its possible that one day, under veterinary guidance, Francine may be able to taper off her medication. For now, were looking for someone who can commit to a simple daily medication routine (its easily mixed into food) and who understands that patience and consistency are part of helping her continue to thrive.

Francine must be the only cat in her home. Other cats cause her significant stress, but people are a different story: she loves being with her humans and is happiest curled up in a lap.

Before coming to us, Francine lived outside near a managed colony, but she was never actually part of it. She always stayed by herself across a busy street, crossing only to eat while avoiding the other cats. She was sweet with her feeder, who even witnessed neighbors pick her up, carry her away, and then drop her in the street.

We do not know exactly what happened early in Francines' life, but it is possible she was separated from her mother too young and never learned normal cat social or survival skills before ending up outside.

When we first trapped her, the stress of being surrounded by other cats in our holding space completely overwhelmed her. We returned her to the only place she knew, where her feeder could continue watching over her. Just two days later, she showed up limping, and we brought her back inside for good.

Today, Francine lives safely in a foster home with her own room away from the resident cats. She has done the work. She found a medication that helps. She has learned that people are safe and that life doesn't have to feel overwhelming.

Now all she needs is someone willing to meet her where she is.

She has tested negative for both FeLV and FIV.
