FOSTER HOME NEEDED TO SAVE THE MOM CAT TO 2 OF OUR RESCUED KITTENS!'s Story
Milwaukee Pets Alive (MPA) is desperately searching for a foster home to save the mom cat of 2 kittens we recently rescued!

One of our current foster homes reached out to us and told us there was a mom cat and her kittens in their backyard, The little family had never been in a home before, and had little experience with people, other than our fosters and some other caring neighbors that were feeding them. Cats that are undersocialized to people are killed at the local shelters. Milwaukee Pets Alive is a special needs and considerations rescue, and undersocialized cats are who we were created to help (and our favorite type of kitties to work with - watching them blossom is so rewarding!).

Someone came forward to foster the kittens (see the 2 black kittens in the first photo) and they are now safe in our care, but their mom (the tuxedo) is still out in the world, all alone, facing dangers and death every day she is out there. Each day, we never know if we will see her again. She could be hit by a car. Killed by a coyote or other wild animal. Hurt by a person with cruel intentions. And soon, she could succumb to the cold. The photo with her kittens was taken right before we rescued the kittens when they were about 19 weeks old, and look, they are almost the same size as her - she's a tiny little thing - just a baby herself! She is just as deserving of an opportunity to be loved in a home, but we can't help her without someone coming forward to foster her. We are an entirely foster home-based rescue - we can only save as many lives as we have foster homes for. Will you help us save this mom kitty and give her the chance at a better by becoming her foster mom and/or dad? We are beside ourselves worried about her. We urgently need to find a foster for her to save her. Please help. If you are not a match for what she needs, please help us find the person that is.

The finders of this little mom kitty named her Megara after the Disney character (or Meg for short). She's a pretty, petite little kitty, probably just around 1 year old. She was such a good mom, watching over her babies (see the photo of her keeping watch over the environment while the kitties' finder plays with a wand toy with the kittens to get them more used to people and ready for placement in one of our foster homes). Meg is ready to be someone's baby herself, and let them take care of her, and she is urgently waiting for that angel to come forward to foster her. It's getting cold outside.

There are several things we are looking for in a foster home for Meg for her to succeed and help her become the kitty she was always meant to be! Here they are:

Because Meg has never been in a home before, and because her experience with people has been limited, she needs a quiet, calm adult-only foster home with a person or couple who can be described as the same, who is patient and understanding, where she can feel safe and secure.

Meg needs a foster home with no dogs in it.

While our undersocialized kitties start out a little unsure of people, they are usually very comfortable with members of their own species which is why we are seeking a foster home for Meg with a resident cat in the home. An appropriately-matched kitty friend really helps us socialize kitties like Meg as they look to the resident cat to "show them the ropes" of being in a home, they watch their interactions with their person and learn to trust in doing so, and they forget their fears while playing and being a cat, so a resident cat is our "secret weapon" in helping the undersocialized ones. The pairing we are looking for for Meg is 1 or 2 young resident MALE cats who are outgoing, fun-loving, playful, curious cats that will be interested in the addition of a new kitty (Meg!) and want to engage her and play with her (after a proper introduction process which we will teach you!). A "welcome-wagon" type of cat. A cat that is fearful or skittish would not be a good match to help us socialize Meg. Also, there should be no female cats in the home, and no kittens (Meg is done with kittens. She's ready for some "me" time and to come into her own!).

MPA works hand-in-hand with our fosters to teach them how to socialize kitties like Meg, every step of the way. It is so rewarding - everyday these cats become braver and achieve new milestones - and its so exciting because YOU made it possible for them! (Visit our Facebook page to see the stories of some of our once-undersocialized cat and kittens, and those whose journey is in progress - including Meg's kittens, Nani & Lilo, who are also undersocialized and already are making huge strides)!

Milwaukee Pets Alive serves Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, and Ozaukee counties. Because work closely with our foster families we must be able to easily access them and our animals, and our animals must have easy access to our veterinary partners central to these counties. We cannot accommodate foster homes outside these 5 counties.

All of our foster parents must be able to commit to their foster animal for as long as their foster animal needs them. As a special needs and considerations rescue, our foster placements are longer term. Many of our foster parents develop a very close bond with their foster animal as they help them with their needs and considerations to be the kitties they were always meant to be so it's no surprise, many of our foster parents adopt their foster animal. While it's definitely not a requirement to foster, we have an extremely high foster-to-adopt rate for the aforementioned reason. We dare you not to fall in love with Meg and want to make her a permanent member of your family.

Do you have what Meg needs? Please, apply to be her foster parent and help us get her safe and in out of the cold! You will literally be saving her life. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FOSTERING HER, YOU MUST COMPLETE AND RETURN OUR FOSTER APPLICATION FOUND AT www.milwaukeepetsalive.org/foster We cannot consider you for fostering without a completed foster application. We will not entertain inquiries coming in through the short petfinder form (and if you fill it out, we will know you did not read this profile all the way through). You must follow the aforementioned foster application process.

Help a life in need. It will be the best thing you ever do with yours.

If you have any questions about fostering in general or Meg specifically, please email foster@milwaukeepetsalive.org

Milwaukee Pets Alive is an all-volunteer, No Kill, special needs and considerations rescue that focuses on saving those local animals in Southeast Wisconsin that have been passed over by, would not be accepted into, or would be killed by other rescues and shelters because of their needs and considerations and would have no other option for life except for through our organization. These animals may be shy, scared, under-socialized, inured, aged, differently-abled, have medical needs, or need extra resources - all deserve the chance to be loved and cherished. And all deserve time, understanding, patience, and good, comprehensive veterinary care to help them get happy, healthy, and reach their highest potential. Their lives are important.

Our mission, through our work aforementioned, and through comprehensive programs and resources to educate and help community members help the animals in their own lives (thereby preventing more animals from entering the shelter system), is to end the killing of homeless companion animals in Southeast WI. The population we rescue comprises those that continue to die in the greatest numbers in our community.

Our vision is for Southeast WI to be one of the safest communities in the United States for companion animals.

We couldn't help these special animals of our community that we do without the wonderful people who foster them!
