FOSTER HOME NEEDED FOR OUR BLIND KITTY, SWEETIE PIE!'s Story
Milwaukee Pets Alive (MPA) was working to save 3 cats from a hoarder house being foreclosed on in August. We had a foster lined up for a brother/sister pair inside the house, and another for this blind kitty named Sweetie Pie, and 18 hours before we were supposed to rescue the cats, the foster we had lined up for Sweetie Pie backed out. Who does that to any animal whose life was literally on the line...but a blind animal on top of it?!?! Man's rejection is God's protection. They didn't deserve this phenomenal, loving little kitty! We were able to put her into a temporary foster home in order to save her from that house, but the temporary foster's home is not a match for Sweetie Pie, so she is just in a room by herself there. We fully integrate our foster animals into the full foster home we place them in as full, loved members of the family, so we are on the search for the most amazing person or couple southeast WI has to become Sweetie Pie's regular foster family who will recognize what an absolute treasure she is and how blessed they'd be to share their heart and home with her. Here's what Sweetie Pie needs in a foster home to reach her highest potential and live her best life:

Sweetie Pie is about 7 1/2 years old (though she could be older - we got her from a hoarder house so there are no records for her). Her name is apropos - she is the sweetest little thing, and one of the most phenomenal animals that have ever come into our rescue. Sweetie Pie is blind which could have been the result of untreated eye infections as a kitten (you don't get vet care in a hoarder house). It has been incredible to watch her in the short time she's been in our care! She plays with the toys we got her (we got her many balls that make noise so she can follow them, and Yeowww catnip toys that she can smell). She learned how to play with the Turbo Scratcher in a matter of minutes. She jumps up on the bed all by herself, and her temporary foster mom made a little perch from a cabinet so she can sit in front of the higher windows in her room and she learned how to get up and down from it quickly, all on her own! She loves to sit in front of the window and listen to the birds chirping outside and "read" the scents coming in through the window on the breeze. Sweetie Pie follows her temporary foster mom around the little room she is in which is really cute. She just wants to be with her person. But most of all, she just wants to cuddle and snuggle and is a purr machine when she is being loved on! She'll even cuddle the vet - she just so wants to be loved and adored! She is so darling! After all she's been through and the life she has had to live up until now in a hoarder house, it is so remarkable how loving she is. It can be quite rare to have a cat that wants to be held, and sit on your lap. We want to make sure we place her with a foster who appreciates her cuddly nature and will make time to give her the attention and affection she craves.

Sweetie Pie needs a quiet, peaceful, tranquil adult-only foster home with a person or couple who can be described as the same. Blind cats navigate their home by memorizing its layout, so Sweetie Pie needs a stable foster home environment with someone established in their life and residence where people don't move furniture or other things around. It's quite incredible to watch blind animals adapt to their surroundings! Without vision, their other senses highly adapt. Blind cats rely on proprioception and sound (and can judge space with sound vibrating off objects and walls in the home - another reason why it's important that things aren't moved around). Sounds can be enriching to a blind animal, or they can be overstimulating. We are looking for a foster home for her that is in a quiet residential area where she can hear and listen to the sounds of birds outside. A home in a downtown area, or on a really busy street would not be a great match for her.

Sweetie Pie needs a foster home with no dogs in it. She could be the only animal in the home and she will soak up all your attention and affection like a sponge, or, if there is a resident cat in the home, we are looking for particulars in a match for her. We would place her with a very laid-back, mellow, easy-going, older MALE cat (NO FEMALES) - her age or older (7 and up) - a senior would be a great pairing as we need to make sure any cat we place her with is going to be kind and gentle to this precious little peanut. We'd consider 2 male cats if they are both as previously described. Just no females.

Milwaukee Pets Alive is a special needs and considerations rescue that serves Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, and Ozaukee counties. We work closely with our foster families and must be able to easily access them and our animals, and our animals must have easy access to our veterinary partners central to these counties. We cannot accommodate foster homes outside these 5 counties.

All of our foster parents must be able to commit to their foster animal for as long as their foster animal needs them. As a special needs and considerations rescue, our foster placements are longer term. Many of our foster parents develop a very close bond with their foster animal as they help them with their needs and considerations to be the kitties they were always meant to be so it's no surprise, many of our foster parents adopt their foster animal. While it's definitely not a requirement to foster, we have an extremely high foster-to-adopt rate for the aforementioned reason. We dare you not to fall in love with Sweetie Pie and want to make her a permanent member of your family. When we go to visit her at her temporary foster home, we don't want to leave her presence! She's an extraordinary little kitty.

Do you have what Sweetie Pie needs? Please, apply to be her foster parent! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FOSTERING HER, YOU MUST COMPLETE AND RETURN OUR FOSTER APPLICATION FOUND AT www.milwaukeepetsalive.org/foster We cannot consider you for fostering without a completed foster application. We will not entertain inquiries coming in through the short petfinder form (and if you fill it out, we will know you did not read this profile all the way through). You must follow the aforementioned foster application process.

Help a life in need. It will be the best thing you ever do with yours.

If you have any questions about fostering in general or Sweetie Pie specifically, please email foster@milwaukeepetsalive.org

Milwaukee Pets Alive is an all-volunteer, No Kill, special needs and considerations rescue that focuses on saving those local animals in Southeast Wisconsin that have been passed over by, would not be accepted into, or would be killed by other rescues and shelters because of their needs and considerations and would have no other option for life except for through our organization. These animals may be shy, scared, under-socialized, inured, aged, differently-abled, have medical needs, or need extra resources - all deserve the chance to be loved and cherished. And all deserve time, understanding, patience, and good, comprehensive veterinary care to help them get happy, healthy, and reach their highest potential. Their lives are important.

Our mission, through our work aforementioned, and through comprehensive programs and resources to educate and help community members help the animals in their own lives (thereby preventing more animals from entering the shelter system), is to end the killing of homeless companion animals in Southeast WI. The population we rescue comprises those that continue to die in the greatest numbers in our community.

Our vision is for Southeast WI to be one of the safest communities in the United States for companion animals.

We couldn't help these special animals of our community that we do without the wonderful people who foster them!
