Florence's Story

This is Florence. She is almost 1 year old, and she is gorgeous. She wandered into a rescuer's backyard, playing with pinecones and climbing trees. After being safely trapped, she slowly became accustomed to indoor life.

This is where we need to talk some truth. Florence is a princess. Those things people say (mostly unfairly) about cats? That they're aloof, think they're better than you, treat you like a servant, just want to sit in high places like a beautiful ornament, eat when it's mealtime and play on their schedule? Those things are all true about Florence. Florence is not an affectionate little love monster. She is royalty living in exile. She knows she deserves every good thing that comes to her and so much more. If you are sitting quietly, she will sit quietly, across the room from you on a high shelf or perhaps sprawled out gracefully on the floor. Her default attitude is indifference or, when pressed beyond her comfort zone, disdain. If you get out soft toys that rattle and a wand with a feather on the end, she will occasionally catch herself having a good time.

The nicest things we can think of to say about her personality are that she is not physically aggressive, she has never gotten into any mischief, and she will suffer great indignity, perhaps eventually even climbing into your lap and tolerating being touched in order to get more treats.

This is not the cat for a family looking for a cuddly, compliant teddy bear. This is a cat for someone looking for an exquisite housemate with simple needs. Someone who understands that all cats, even surly, noble femmes fatales, deserve a comfortable, consistent home life where they can explore, learn, and maybe eventually come to realize that life among the servant class isn't so bad after all.

- Available for adoption
- 1 year old
- Fully vetted
