FLETCHER REEDE's Story

Staff would describe my personality as: Very sweet and loving. Call him Mr Chill With other cats I am: Good! With dogs I am: Unknown but given his laidback personality we would probably say good. With children I am: Unknown but given his laidback personality we would probably say good. All cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, and cats over 6 months of age are tested for heartworms. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Cats are vaccinated against distemper and rabies, receive a flea preventative, are spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption. I tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), a virus which affects my immune system. I can live with other friendly cats, because it can only be spread between cats through deep bite wounds from a positive cat to a negative cat. Many owners have FIV-positive cats living with their FIV-negative cats in harmony, including shelter staff! FIV cats often have similar life spans to cats without it, and FIV is typically only considered a health factor in cats when the cat becomes sick, as their immune system is weaker from the virus. This virus only infects cats, so I cannot spread it to dogs or humans or any other species of animal except a cat. You can learn more about FIV by visiting https://resources.bestfriends.org/article/fiv-cats-faqs-feline-immunodeficiency-virus
