Ezekiel's Story

Ezekiel (about 5 and a half months old as of 12/04/25) is a neutered male brown tabby and white shorthaired kitten. Zeke was born to a Waukegan stray that was trapped for spaying just before she gave birth so her kittens were delivered in a cage. Normally this would be an ideal situation and the kittens would all grow up very friendly, but the family that found his mom didn't realize they needed to spend time with the kittens until they came in for their first shots at 6 weeks old and were acting feral. We advised them to spend more time with the kittens but but progress was slow because they didn't have a lot of free time or experience with ferals so at 3 and a half months old we moved them into a more experienced foster home that would have time to essentially tame them. Zeke is a funny little guy, he was in many ways the most wild in his litter, but is a sweet, simple guy who really loves tasty food, any kind of playtime, and belly rubs so he was very easily influenced and made a lot of progress. When he gets going he purrs so loud, gives loving licks (and gentle chomps) and will roll around in your lap, but consistency is his struggle. Zeke is still much more nervous than an average well adjusted kitten his age and although he loves to spend time around people he will sometimes run when you reach to pet him or especially if you go to pick him up and he's not in the right mood. He'll need an extra understanding and patient family who will work with him to bring out all his best qualities. He's a super playful boy and loves other cats, but he's a bit of a big dumb oaf. He makes his much smaller sisters scream when they wrestle and is oblivious when they're done having fun, and will even slowly bonk his big mitts at adult cats trying to get them to play. He needs to go to home with a young sturdy feline playmate or adopted along with another sturdy kitten he can get some of this energy out with! He hasn't lived with dogs but likes watching them on TV and would probably learn to love a calm, cat friendly dog. Because he likes to play bite so much and is so nervous we don't think he'd be a good option for younger kids.

Spay and Stay's Adoption Policy
If you think you might be interested in one of our cats please fill out our adoption application at https://www.spayandstay.org/cat-adoption/.  We will then work with you to ensure a good match and can arrange a meeting with the kitty or kitties you are most interested in.  We require a small donation as an adoption fee that varies depending on the age of the cat or kitten and offer a "bulk discount" for adopters willing to take on more than one kitty. Adult cats over 1 year- $80, Kittens 6 months - 1 year- $100; $175 for a pair. Kittens under 6 months- $125; $225 for 2, or $325 for 3 kittens. The adoption fee in each case includes the cat being spayed or neutered, up to date on FVRCP and rabies vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and tested for FIV and FeLV. Because pet adoption is not our primary mission we have no central animal shelter and rely solely on a network of volunteer foster homes to house and socialize our adoptable cats.  While we don't have one convenient location to come and meet all of our available cats at once our individual foster parents get to work very closely with each kitty and can speak to what they are like in a home environment. We always take our kitties back if things aren't working out after a little time so we're passionate about helping you find the right match.
