Emma's Story
I HAD A HOME ONCE... I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY I LOST IT .
Hi .. I’m Emma .
I know there are so many cats here waiting for someone to notice them, but I’m hoping you’ll stop for me, because my heart is already broken. I’m not a cat who has never known a home . I had one . I knew what it was like to wake up every day knowing where I belonged. I knew my person’s voice, their smell, their routines, and what it felt like to be loved . I knew what it was like to curl up beside someone and feel safe. I thought that was going to be my life forever. Then my owner passed away . And just like that, the life I knew disappeared. I didn’t get to understand why my person wasn’t coming back. I couldn’t know that it wasn’t their choice to leave me. All I knew was that the person I loved was suddenly gone, and I was brought back here .
Now I’m sitting here waiting for someone to choose me again. And maybe that’s the hardest part... because I already know exactly what I’m missing. I know what a home feels like . I know what it feels like to have someone to belong to. I know what it’s like to have a lap waiting for me. The volunteers say I’m a lap cat, and maybe that’s because when someone gives me a little love, I want to hold onto it. I want to curl up close, feel a warm hand petting me, and pretend for a little while that I’m home again .
I don’t need anything fancy. I don’t need the biggest house or the most exciting life. I just want my person. Someone who will look at me and see a cat who has already lost someone she loved and deserves the chance to be loved again . Someone who will let me be their lap cat. Someone who will let me sleep peacefully knowing I’m safe. Someone who will make me believe that this time, when I finally call somewhere “home,” it really will be furever .
Please don’t let the fact that I’m an adult make you overlook me. Please don’t let me become one of those cats who watches families come and go while wondering why nobody stops for her . I’ve already lost the person who meant the world to me. I’m not asking for my old life back, because I know I can’t have that. I’m just asking for a new one .
I loved someone once with my whole little heart. I lost them through no fault of my own . And somehow, I’m still here, still hoping, still waiting, still ready to love someone all over again.
Please .. let me be your lap cat. Let me be someone’s Emma again. Let me go home .
