Ember's Story

Ember was rescued by Safe Haven from a campground in September 2024. She is a beautiful, quiet feline who enjoys the simple pleasures in life like basking in the warm sun on the screened-in porch, quiet spaces, and gentle/calm interactions. Ember is a curious and cautious explorer who is a bit shy and not overly social around volunteers, but welcomes visits. When it’s playtime, she is one of the first kitties to appear from her hiding place and initially observes from the sidelines with curiosity. If you watch her you can see how much she wants to join the group, but she waits patiently until the time is right to participate in the fun. She loves wand toys and remains interested in play until you leave the room. When playtime is over, Ember is very content finding a quiet spot to take a nap. She gets along with all of her feline roommates, but is also independent. Although she is not bonded with any one cat, she is comforted by the
presence of the other cats in the room.

Ember has made great progress since arriving at Safe Haven. She does require some time to gain more confidence and assurance. When it comes to people, she is cautious and prefers to keep her space. Just like playtime, you can tell by watching her how much she wants to come closer. If approached too quickly or touched before she is ready, she may become a bit uncomfortable and walk away to a safe space. Ember prefers meeting new people at her own pace and will happily hang out once she knows you’re a friend. Once she gains your trust she will gladly lick from a hand held squeeze-up. Dedicated socializers at Safe Haven have already worked with Ember over many hours to prepare her for adoption.

Ember would do best with an adopter who has experience with shy or reserved cats and is willing to invest time in the socialization process. Like many shy cats coming from a shelter there is an adjustment period and Ember requires patience and understanding, allowing her to blossom at her own pace.

The rewards of rescuing and nurturing a cat like cat Ember are immeasurable. We believe that with more time, dedication, and love Ember will shine and become a special part of her forever family home.

Ember would do best in a quiet home with adults where she can be the sole focus of her owner's affection.

She would do well with another cat she is already friendly with from our shelter, or with an existing calm and quiet cat that welcomes a new friend.

If you believe you can provide the loving home Ember deserves, please consider
adopting her. Together, you can create a bond that will last a lifetime.

To meet Ember and visit the shelter located at the Thrift Shop/Cattail Farm, 1784 Post Road, Wells, ME (Route 1), please click on the link below to fill out an adoption application.
