Ember's Story

Introducing Ember. This handsome tabby boy is a real sweetheart and will make a wonderful addition to his new family. He's loving, cuddly, and interactive; the w hole package.

Ember is a very social cat who loves to spend time with his people. He will solicit pets from, and share purrs with, anyone who is willing to give him a bit of attention. Although Ember does like to play, he's quite a mellow guy. He's happy to just be around people and will make a great TV watching, or reading buddy.

Ember is currently in a foster home with another cat and they get along for the most part. However, they do have a few scuffles on occasion that seem to stem from the sharing of resources. He might do OK in a home with other cats if the other cat is laid back and if there are enough laps, food bowls, and litter boxes for everyone to share. However, Ember does not need feline companionship. He's happy to spend all of his time with people.

He has lived with a medium-sized, cat-friendly dog in the past and they largely ignored each other. Ember could live with a dog again provided they're introduced properly and it respects his space. Ember has also lived in a foster home with older, cat-savvy kids and did just fine with them.

Overall, Ember has been healthy during his time with us. During his last visit, the vet detected a faint heart murmur, which had never been heard during his previous visits. She suspects that it was likely due to stress from the visit (which can cause 'turbulence' in the heart.) However, we cannot rule out a very minor heart murmur. You can learn more about heart murmurs at https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952593.

If you'd like to apply to adopt Ember, please visit https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/ for info about our adoption process and to find a copy of our online adoption application.

Victoria Pet Adoption Society's Adoption Policy
Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and a big responsibility. Dogs can live 15 years or more, and cats can live 20+ years. Like people, each individual pet comes with its own set of baggage, needs, and personality traits. Because your new pet will depend on you to provide its basic needs, we need to be sure that you are educated and up to the challenge. Our adoption process allows us to ask you some questions about your home environment, your lifestyle, and your needs, expectations, and limitations. We want to be sure that your new pet is going to be just as happy in its new home as you are to have it there. A Successful Adoption Process Includes the Following Steps: To start the adoption process, please complete the online adoption application found at https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/. If our adoption team feels as though your home will be a great fit for one of our pets they will contact you to set up a visit supervised by the foster parent who can answer some of the questions you may have about the animal of interest. You will not be able to take the pet home the day of the visit. One of our volunteers will contact you after the visit and will open a dialogue with you based on the information provided in your application. We will talk about your home and family, as well as your experience with pets. We will ask you to tell us about the kind of life and care you can offer to the adopted pet, and we will inform you about any health or behavioural issues that you should be aware of. (For dogs only) Once an adoption is pending, we will come visit your home to ensure that the environment is suitable for the pet in question, based on its needs. We can advise you of modifications that could make the adoption more successful, such as fencing and other things you may not have thought about. The adoption process generally takes several days, and this time line is intentional. It allows you time to think about your decision so that you can be sure that you are comfortable with the decision that you’ve made. Adoptions are never approved within 48 hours of the application being submitted. Once we have successfully journeyed through the steps above, you can pick up your new friend to begin a wonderful life together! Signing an adoption contract is a requirement for every pet that is adopted. Adoption Fees are as Follows: Kittens (up to 12 months of age) $400 Adult Cats (1 yr - 8yrs) $300 Senior Cats (9 yrs and older) $250 Special Needs Cats (other than kittens) $250 Puppies (up to 12 months of age) $600 Adult Dogs (1 yr - 8yrs) $400 Senior Dogs (9 yrs and older) $300 Special Needs dogs (other than puppies) $300 Rabbits $50 Guinea Pigs $30 Rats/hamsters $20 Mice $10 Adoption fees for other species may vary
