Meet Eeyore - Sweetheart Special Needs Kitty

Wow - The name Eeyore really does not fit anymore. He was a very sad kitty in a local county shelter and would not even pick up his head when we met him. Of course, he was feeling rotten due to an awful case of mange so he was definitely not feeling well. We met him when he was in quarantine and took him into foster care after his mange treatment was finished. We knew he was a sweet boy when we met him but we had NO IDEA JUST HOW SWEET! He is now in foster care and he is loving life. He gets along GREAT with other kitties. He cannot get enough human attention and it is very hard to photograph him! If you are trying to clean up or scoop the box, he will be right there with you! He is a true diamond in the rough. He did test positive for FIV but please don't let that scare you away. Most of our foster homes take in FIV positive kitties if they are good with other kitties. FIV cannot be transmitted unless the cat was to seriously bite or mate with another. Kitties who have FIV can live long healthy lives as long as they are kept safe and healthy indoors.

Eeyore is considered a special needs kitty because he has an enlarged heart and was diagnosed with the beginnings of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). He feels fine and shows absolutely NO symptoms at this time so he may stay healthy for years, but HCM is a progressive disease and he may require medication down the line to help his manage his heart condition. He was awarded a senior pet adoption grant from the Petfinder Foundation (yay!) to help pay for future medical care he may need after he finds a forever home. Please don't let costs be an inhibitor - we have got that covered:) Despite potential special medical needs this sweet guy might need, Eeyore is a prize and very worthy of a loving, forever home to call his own.

The cat adoption fee is $110 (or $175 for two cats). Second Chance Pets is a foster-based organization so all animals live in foster homes throughout the area. All cats are spayed/neutered, tested for FIV and feline leukemia, fully vaccinated, dewormed, defleaed and microchipped. If interested in one of our cats please feel free to complete an application, found on our website www.secondchancepets.org, and return it to us for pre-review. We do not have a phone number so please email us at pets2adopt@yahoo.com.
