Dustin's Story

Dustin is a cat with a big personality, playful streak, and just the right amount of sass. This handsome guy enjoys the quieter side of life and would thrive in a calm home where he can be the center of attention. While he has done well around other cats at times, he tends to feel most comfortable when he's the only pet in the household. A peaceful environment helps him feel secure and keeps him at his very best.

Dustin is an independent companion who likes being near his people without constantly being in the spotlight. You'll often find him snoozing at the foot of the bed, lounging beside you on the couch, or quietly keeping tabs on whatever you're doing. Affection is very much on his terms, but when he decides it's cuddle time, he is incredibly sweet and loving. Like many cats with strong opinions, he can get a little grumbly. (expect the occasional swat or "love bite" when he's feeling overstimulated).

Playtime is one of Dustin's favorite things! He loves noisy toys, feather wands, laser pointers, and especially catnip, eating it, rolling in it, and fully embracing the experience. He'll also need plenty of scratching posts to help keep his claws busy and your furniture safe. Future adopters should know he's a clever little food thief who may help himself to snacks left on counters and has been known to nibble on houseplants.

Because he can become stressed in busy environments, we recommend a quiet adult home or one with older, respectful children. If you're looking for a cat with personality, charm, and a little bit of mischievous energy, Dustin may just be your perfect match.Adoption Application can be found at: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=hk0097&method=online_form_html&formid=13

Humane Society of Kodiak Animal Shelter's Adoption Policy
If you are interested in adopting one of our shelter pets, please fill out our online adoption application in full. Do not just send an email saying you want to adopt. It typically takes approximately 24 hrs or more to process an adoption application. You must be 21 years of age or older and present a current photo ID. The Humane Society of Kodiak may limit the number of animals that can be adopted at any one time, require certain animals to be adopted together, or require other restrictions regarding other pets or children. These restrictions are in place so we can give every shelter pet the best chance of success in a new home. All adult dogs, cats and rabbits will be spayed or neutered prior to leaving the shelter. All dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens, will receive a microchip implant prior to adoption. All current pets in the household MUST be spayed or neutered and current on vaccines. If you already have a dog in your household, we must conduct a "meet & greet". If you rent your residence, we will need the landlord's contact information & consent. All dogs who are 6 months of age or older will be required to purchase a dog license. Please know that if you do not live on Kodiak Island you will not be able to adopt an unaltered puppy or kitten from us. Adoption of an animal is NOT on a first come, first served basis. We evaluate adoption applicants based on the animal’s needs. The Humane Society of Kodiak reserves the right to refuse any adoption.
