Doug's Story

Doug has a sad story with an unwritten, but hopeful, fairy tale ending.

On Valentines Day, Doug was found on the side of the road in very bad shape.

Dougs rescuers knew he needed more medical care than they could provide and made the decision to surrender him to HEAR so he could get the help he deserved. Thanks to our amazing supporters and donors, Doug received veterinary care and was diagnosed with FIC (Feline Idiopathic Cystitis), a painful bladder condition often triggered by stress.

We believe the stress of surviving outside and likely going without enough water for a long period of time contributed to his condition. When urinating becomes painful, many cats will stop drinking water altogether and thats exactly what Doug did.

But over the last week, Doug has made incredible progress and he is like a whole new cat. From lethargic and withdrawn, he is now on antibiotics, drinking water, feeling better and showing everyone what a sweet soul he truly is.

Doug is approximately 1824 months old and will likely need to remain on a urinary diet. He would do best in a calm, quiet home where he can continue to heal and feel safe. He is laid back, gentle and would make an amazing lap cat.

Doug is not quite ready for adoption yet, but we hope he will be in the next week or two. If you or someone you know could give Doug the fairy tale ending he deserves, please let us know. Text or call us at 307.360.6000 or complete an adoption application: https://airtable.com/appt1kgR2LNQ6UuIz/shr87v5K4iCNrIPUZ

Sometimes the best love stories begin with rescue.
