Dexter's Story
Meet Dexter, a 7-year-old, 10-pound DSH who has perfected the art of being quietly wonderful.

Dexter is sensitive, social, and very much a believer in the philosophy that kindness goes a long way. He doesn't need a marching band, a standing ovation, or a human who thinks every interaction needs to be an event. A gentle touch will do nicely, thank you very much.

And when that gentle hand arrives? Dexter has an impressive response: he simply gives in to the good stuff. His whole demeanor softens, and he leans into affection with the kind of trust that makes you want to cancel your afternoon plans and stay right there with him. Apparently, Dexter has decided that being a cat is considerably better when someone knows how to deliver a proper pet.

His sensitive nature means Dexter appreciates a little consideration. He notices things. He takes his time with new situations. But that isn't a flaw—its evidence that this is a cat who pays attention to his surroundings and values feeling comfortable with the people around him. Once he knows he's among friends, his sweet personality has plenty of room to shine.

Theres also something wonderfully understated about Dexter. He isn't trying to win a popularity contest. He's simply a nice cat who enjoys people and genuine affection, which, frankly, is a pretty excellent set of credentials.

Dexter has already taken care of the practical details. He's chipped, vaccinated, neutered, vet-checked, and FeLV/FIV negative. Now he's looking for someone who appreciates a cat with a tender disposition, a social streak, and an almost suspiciously good talent for turning a simple head scratch into a full-body relaxation session.

Dexter may not demand the spotlight but give him a little kindness and he has a way of making himself very hard to forget.

Want to meet him? Please fill out our application at azhartt.org/adopt

Requirements include meeting everyone in the household and a complete home check. Adoption applications are approved on a best-fit basis.

We do not do out-of-state adoptions.

Dexter is an indoor-only cat who needs a family to keep him safe inside.

Adoption Fee: $75
