Darrell's Story

Meet Darrell!

Darrell has spent the last few months living among a feral cat colony, but make no mistake—he is not feral. He’s friendly, affectionate, and clearly longing for human companionship. This young, PETITE boy is already neutered, up to date on his rabies vaccine, and absolutely adores being petted. All he needs now is someone to say, “You’re home.”

But time is running out for Darrell. Unlike the ferals he lives with, Darrell doesn’t know how to hide from danger. He risks wandering into the road or venturing into yards with dogs that won’t tolerate him. He’s in a truly unsafe situation, and he urgently needs a loving, protective home where he can finally let his guard down.

He lives around other cats outdoors, but obviously sometimes they hiss at each other. He may be ok with dogs in the home if they give him some space to adjust. He would be best with older kids or teenagers as he has grumpy quirks like not wanting his tail messed with. He hasn't lashed out but he will hiss. He's fine with being picked up and loves to be petted. Wet food is his favorite!

A calm indoor/outdoor setup where he can adjust slowly could be a possibility—but the ideal life for Darrell would be as an indoor cat, safe, cherished, spoiled and truly SAFE like he’s always deserved to be.

If you’re ready to be Darrell’s hero and give him the second chance he’s been waiting for, please apply to adopt at www.bit.ly/mu-adopt-cat.

Darrell is currently living in Gulfport, MS and transport is possible depending on the location.

Our adoption process is thorough and designed to ensure the best possible match for both the animal and the adopter. We require a detailed application, check veterinary and personal references, conduct phone or Zoom interviews (especially for out-of-state adopters), and sometimes do home visits for local applicants. We disclose all known health and behavior information so adopters can make an informed decision, and we look for a lifelong commitment, including a plan in place in case the adopter can no longer care for the animal.
