Dale's Story

Dale: A Gentle Soul Learning to Trust 🐾

Dale came to Good Mews from a rural county shelter alongside his brother, Chippy—because of course, if there’s a Chip, there has to be a Dale! While his brother is the social butterfly, Dale is the quiet, sensitive one who is still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place.

Dale is a very shy boy who will need time, patience, and understanding from his forever family. When he first arrived in foster care, he spent several weeks tucked safely in hiding. Over the past 45 days, he has made steady, meaningful progress—he now comes out when his foster family enters the room, stays nearby, and comfortably eats his meals in their presence. While he isn’t ready for pets just yet, he is clearly beginning to trust and observe from a safe distance.

One thing that brings Dale immediate joy and confidence? Other cats. He absolutely lights up around feline friends and has been incredibly social with every cat he’s met—rubbing against them, following them, and seeking out their companionship right away. Because of this, Dale will need a confident, friendly cat in his forever home to help guide him and show him the ropes (his brother Chippy would be a wonderful match!).

While he may be shy with people, Dale’s playful side shines through during playtime. He is a hardcore laser light enthusiast and loves chasing it with impressive speed and agility—this boy has some serious ups! He also enjoys wand toys and will happily engage when he feels safe and comfortable.

Dale has been introduced to a large-breed dog and did well after a very slow, proper introduction.

Dale is not a cat who will be an instant cuddle bug—but for the right person, he has the potential to be an incredibly rewarding companion. Watching him continue to build confidence and learn to trust will be a beautiful journey for a patient and understanding adopter.

Good Mews Animal Foundation's Adoption Policy
Adoption fees vary and are published on our Adoption Information page. There may be adoption discounts available; be sure to check the Ongoing Adoption Promotions page for details. All Good Mews cats have been examined by a veterinarian, tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines. Records and information regarding any other vetting, surgery, or blood work that may have been completed prior to adoption will be provided to the adopter. In addition, all cats receive a complimentary bag of Science Diet cat food and a variety of items generously donated by our supporters, including toys. You may submit your application to adopt a cat prior to your appointment but we are unable to hold or otherwise promise a particular animal until you have visited our shelter in person. You only need one application for all of our animals. Once you submit an application, please visit our shelter so that we can help you select the perfect cat. *Good Mews has the right to refuse any applicant for any reason. All submitted surveys become the property of Good Mews. Policies Bring as many members of your household as possible, including children, to be sure that your family and the cat are compatible. A counselor will then interview you about your expectations and guide you through the shelter to meet our many residents. After that, it is up to you—and many times the cat will choose you! Once you have chosen your cat, your adoption has been approved, and you are ready to sign an adoption contract, we will need the following: two forms of ID bearing your current address, one with a photo. If you rent, we require a copy of your signed lease agreement outlining pet requirements and the name and phone number of your landlord. Good Mews accepts the following forms of payment for the adoption fee: Cash, Check, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. Special Note Regarding Adopting Kittens Good Mews follows the advice of many leading animal behaviorists when designing our adoption policies. Research shows that kittens do best in environments with other cats or kittens because it helps them be better socialized, better behaved, and less likely to exhibit destructive behavior because they are less likely to be bored. As a result, we will only adopt kittens under the age of 8 months to a home with another cat or kitten, or in pairs from our shelter if the home does not already have a cat in residence.
