Dahlia - FIV+'s Story
Dahlia is a stunning 4 year old tortoiseshell girl with a heart as beautiful as her name. She came from a difficult hoarding situation, but her past hasn't dimmed her spirit one bit. Dahlia is FIV positive, yet she doesn't let that slow her down or define her—she lives life full of love and joy.

She is incredibly affectionate with everyone she meets, getting along wonderfully with both people and other cats. Dahlia absolutely adores attention, and if she feels she's not getting enough, she'll sweetly lift her paw to let you know it's cuddle time. Gentle, loving, and endlessly charming, Dahlia is ready to bring warmth, comfort, and lots of affection to a forever home that will cherish her.

Though Dahlia has tested positive for FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus), this will not prevent her from living a long, happy, normal life! The disease can only affect felines and is rarely spread to altered, friendly FIV-negative cats. It cannot be spread by sharing litter boxes, food dishes, playing or grooming. Transmission is only possible through deep puncture wounds (think non-neutered male cats fighting over territories) - again, Dahlia is a lover not a fighter, and is not the type to get into these types of serious scuffles with another friendly housemate. Additionally, she does not require any medicine for her condition, but since her immune system is a bit more suppressed than normal, she has the potential to get sick easier. For indoor cats, this is generally a non-issue as she will not be exposed to diseases and viruses in the safety of her home. Don't be scared by the myths people (and even some misguided veterinarians!) spread about FIV. Take your time and do the research, and make your own decision about whether adopting an FIV cat is right for you if you have other felines at home.
