Claire's Story
Update 8/9/26: Claire's sweet side is starting to shine through. She likes to get petted, will purr loudly, chirps to get attention (and food!) She is still a shy kitty, but is starting to come out of her shell. It has been good for both her and Celine to be apart from one another it seems. Claire is waiting for that special kind and patient adopter to bring her home! She is very food motivated, so some yummy eats and a consistent person in a reasonably calm environment (and of course time) will probably do the trick.

------------

Update 7/29/26: The kind and patient SPIN volunteers are winning Celine (and Claire) over! I posted a new video that to the average person may seem a bit boring...but what you are looking at are the beginnings of a frightened cat starting to trust humans! This is Celine playing and accepting, maybe even wanting(!), pets. The right adopter can and will get Celine to blossom like the beautiful flower she is. For the time being, we have separated Claire and Celine again and think they are doing a lot better apart.

-------------

Update 7/7/26: The SPIN volunteers are still working with Celine and Claire to get them to warm up to humans. Celine is very distrustful of people. She is food-motivated and does like to play with a specific green ribbon wand toy. Claire is a bit more accepting of touch and pets, but is very shy. I expect that an adopter is going to have to be very patient to break through to these kitties. Claire and Celine are back together, and we do expect that they should be adopted as a pair. They may be perfect for someone who wants household cats, but does not want to put a lot of energy into them outside feeding them and cleaning their litter box. Alternatively, they would make a good pair for someone who wants to test their "cat whisperer" skills and bring them out of their self-protective shells.

------------

This lovely white and brown longish-haired beauty arrived at SPIN with her housemate Celine. It will be pretty obvious when you meet her that she has very little trust of humans right now. This is the type of kitty that the SPIN volunteers rally around! Using all of our collective kitty tricks and wisdom, we are slowly getting her to warm up to us. And like nearly all shy, displaced, and scared kitties, the way to their hearts is through their bellies! Using Churu-like treats (squeezable tubes of goopy goodness beloved by felines) and delicious canned cat food, Claire is getting used to people bringing her nice things. She does enjoy full body pets and scritches around her neck, and will purr quite loudly when we do it right! We know it is a matter of time before she comes out of her shell.

There are many people who love the gregarious outgoing cats that have a way of catching everyone's attention at first sight. These kitties are loved by all and easily find themselves a home. Yet there are other people who see the quiet and hesitant cats and know that time, consistency, and patience are the keys to winning them over. And that there are no shortcuts. The reward for choosing the shy one is that the bond, once formed, is like no other. Come visit Claire at the SPIN home if you are the type of person who wants the pet that doesn't necessarily love everyone else.

Just one note. We believe that Claire is bonded with Celine and that they probably should go home together. However, we have noticed some friction between the two and are separating them for the time being to see if they adjust better separately. Come talk to us and see what you think!

--------------

Stray Pets In Need (SPIN) has weekly open adoption hours where you can drop in and meet our cats at 5 Overbrook Terrace, Natick, MA Fridays 5-7pm and Saturdays/Sundays 3-6pm.

If you are thinking of adopting Claire or any other of the SPIN kitties, before you come by consider first filling out an application to speed up the process:
www.straypetsinneed.org/adoptions/adoption-application.

All of our available cats are listed at: www.straypetsinneed.org/adoptions/adoptable-pets.

We look forward to meeting you and your family!
