CHITA RIVERA What's Behind the Name?<br/>Named after the legendary Broadway star Chita Rivera, our Chita possesses the same delicate poise and grace as her famous namesake. That makes her story even more remarkable, because when she arrived at Crash's Landing, moving gracefully was the last thing on her mind.<br/>In mid-April, Chita was literally pulled from a flooded mobile home in the middle of the Muskegon River. Estimated to have been born in the spring of 2018, she came from an overpopulation situation where her medical needs simply weren't being addressed. By the time she reached us, she was suffering from severe pododermatitiscommonly known as "pillow foot an inflammatory condition that had left her paw pads swollen, blistered, and painfully prolapsed.<br/>To restore her comfort and mobility, surgery was required to remove the angry, beet-red tissue that had overtaken her delicate toes. She was also anemic when she arrived, but once her underlying inflammation was brought under control, that issue resolved beautifully. <br/>Today, Chita is doing remarkably well. Her pillow foot will likely require occasional maintenance with systemic steroids as needed, but we opted for a long-acting treatment and she has responded wonderfully. Most importantly, she can now move comfortably and confidently through life, just as every cat deserves.<br/>And what a delightful companion she is!<br/>Chita adores people and gets along beautifully with other cats. She's the kind of cat who makes herself at home wherever she goes, happily sharing the spotlight with everyone around heras long as she gets a role in your daily production.<br/>Our shelter manager perfectly sums up what volunteers have been saying since the day she arrived:<br/>"She's an absolute sweetheart who is getting along nicely with everyone. I can tell she appreciates being with us where she is safe and very much cared for."<br/>We agree wholeheartedly. Chita would thrive in most homes, especially one with a friendly feline companion or two. She seems tailor-made for someone who is home often and looking for a devoted, constant companion. She has so much love to give and seems determined to make up for every difficult day she endured before rescue.<br/>After everything she's survived, this graceful leading lady is ready for her happily-ever-after. All she needs now is her audience of oneor a loving familyto take her home.
