Chewbacca's Story

Some of you who follow us on Facebook will remember Chewbacca, a severely beat up black cat we rescued from a life on the streets 5 years ago. There was not an inch of his body that did not have serious battle scars. We trapped him and fixed him all up but not surprisingly, given the great number of bite wounds all over his body, he was FIV positive. To our great joy Chewbacca’s worries and anxieties came to an end when he was adopted by a wonderful couple. He has lived his best life with them for the past 5 years. He was home; he was happy. Many of you followed regular updates about his adoptive life. But soon his life is going to be turned upside down. He is going to lose his beloved home due to absolutely no fault of his own. His humans are immigrating from Canada to the Dominican Republic and they cannot take him along. The Dominican Republic does not allow FIV positive cats into the country. So the search is on for a new home for Chewbacca. He has been living happily as an only cat and we feel that that remains the best option for him. Because he had been badly beat up by other cats when he lived outside all those years ago he has shown no interest in bonding with another cat. He will lose his home some time in June. So the hunt is on for a new home for Chewbacca or a foster to adopt home or a foster home if an adoptive home cannot be found soonish. Please help Chewbacca find his new home by sharing this post far and wide.
If you are interested in meeting Chewbacca email us at nsnap@cogeco.ca or send us a pm. Below is a description of Chewbacca’s personality written by the lady who had adopted him 5 years ago.

Charming Chatty Chewbacca
Chewbacca is a laid back, gentle boy who greets you at the door with his remarkable purr. He’s easy going and loves head-butts and scratches on his chin. He’ll talk to you to let you know when it’s time for treats or a scratch.
Chewbacca loves to sit at the window and watch the chipmunks and sniff the great outdoors, but he is strictly an indoor cat, safe and sound.
Chewbacca has done well as a single cat in a mature home with no children, but has also lived with a younger female cat to whom he displayed indifference.
He is gentle with young children who are gentle with him with head scratches and treats, but no rough play or picking him up from children. Chewie is not really a lap cat, he tolerates an adult picking him up for a brief cuddle, but he does love to hang out in the same room where his humans are.
He has a few favourite sleep spots he has claimed, along with his bed. Chewie generally doesn’t jump up on the furniture, likely due to a few old injuries from before his rescue, but sometimes does make himself cozy on the bed, or in the closet on a shelf, and at night when we are in bed he may spend an hour or so on the couch.
Chewbacca snores when he sleeps and sounds like a Wookie when he “talks” to whoever will listen to him.
Chewbacca is free fed his dry food, and has moist food in the morning and at dinner. He has short-lived playing sprees with a wand and with a lazer light, and has been known to bat around a tennis ball! He always uses his litter box, and has one on the main floor and one in the basement.

If you are interested in meeting Chewbacca please email us at nsnap@cogeco.ca and we will be happy to email you a no obligation adoption application. Once we have that we will be happy to arrange a meet and greet.

Adoption Fee for Chewbacca is $150
