Cherry's Story

Cherry (about 6 months old as of 9/16/2025) is a spayed female brown tabby and white shorthaired kitten. Cherry was born on 3.14 or "Pi Day", to a friendly stray cat 2 days after she was brought into Waukegan Animal Control who saw she was very pregnant and got her settled into a foster home. Cherry's mom and siblings have all since been adopted except for her sister Rhubarb, her best friend in the whole world! The two of them love to cuddle each other, work together to smother their humans with their cuddles, and chase each other around wrestling like absolute maniacs. They're both very chatty and social if a little shy at first with new people or new places. Cherry in particular is adventurous and loves to clumsily explore and check out new things. At home they are super playful and like almost any cat toys, especially anything dangly! All that play works up an appetite, So Cherry will tell you if you've forgotten her mealtime! They get along well with other cats and would make great little sisters, though their kitten antics might be a bit much for a senior cat used to peace and quiet. They haven't lived with dogs but have spent a lot of time at the pet store and are young enough that given a slow introduction a calm, cat friendly dog might work for them. They would be endless entertainment for kids but might do better with older kids that can give them a little space as they get to know each other.

Spay and Stay's Adoption Policy
If you think you might be interested in one of our cats please fill out our adoption application at https://www.spayandstay.org/cat-adoption/.  We will then work with you to ensure a good match and can arrange a meeting with the kitty or kitties you are most interested in.  We require a small donation as an adoption fee that varies depending on the age of the cat or kitten and offer a "bulk discount" for adopters willing to take on more than one kitty. Adult cats over 1 year- $80, Kittens 6 months - 1 year- $100; $175 for a pair. Kittens under 6 months- $125; $225 for 2, or $325 for 3 kittens. The adoption fee in each case includes the cat being spayed or neutered, up to date on FVRCP and rabies vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and tested for FIV and FeLV. Because pet adoption is not our primary mission we have no central animal shelter and rely solely on a network of volunteer foster homes to house and socialize our adoptable cats.  While we don't have one convenient location to come and meet all of our available cats at once our individual foster parents get to work very closely with each kitty and can speak to what they are like in a home environment. We always take our kitties back if things aren't working out after a little time so we're passionate about helping you find the right match.
