Challah's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
Meet Challah! Challah is a nearly 10-month-old sweetheart who has been in rescue since he was just 3 weeks old. While all of his siblings found their forever homes early on, Challah is still patiently waiting for his turn—and he’s more than ready. He’s neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and has had excellent veterinary care along the way.

This handsome boy is everything you could want in a feline companion: loving, loyal, intelligent, playful, snuggly, and delightfully goofy. He has impeccable litter box manners, uses his scratching posts like a pro, and leaves furniture alone. Confident and social, Challah enjoys meeting new people and even goes along happily for car rides.

Now for full disclosure—Challah has one very notable quirk: he is extremely curious with his mouth. Food, plastic, fabric, thread... if it’s within reach, he may try to taste it. Because of this, Challah needs a very tidy home, close supervision, and a commitment to keeping tempting (and unsafe) items out of reach. During meals, he’s happily occupied in another room with toys or puzzles, and he does best on a strict, measured feeding schedule to keep him at a healthy weight. With the right management, he thrives—but his future family should be prepared for extra vigilance.

As a young kitten, Challah experienced recurrent upper respiratory infections, and one of his siblings tested positive as a calicivirus carrier. While Challah has been symptom-free for several months, stress or illness could cause a flare-up in the future. The good news? He’s incredibly easy to medicate and handles care like a champ.

Challah would love nothing more than to find his forever family before his first birthday. If you’re a tidy household with a sense of humor and room in your heart for a lovable, snuggly, tiny agent of chaos, reach out to learn more about Challah.

Challah is from an owner surrender with 3 siblings. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an

adoption application.

An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.

To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our

How to Adopt page.

If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can

donate

to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.
