Captain Crunch ***Special Needs: FIV+***'s Story
Captain Crunch: a finger infatuated, cow cat big lug guy in need of a savvy human or family who knows my type and gets me.

Captain Crunch's story: First, about the name. I did not pick it. I have to blame Tufts, where I was surrendered by a Good Samaritan. I don't know much more, other than next thing you know I'm being poked and prodded by the medical team, and I didn't like it very much, So, I may have happened to bite a technician to show my dissatisfaction. Admittedly, I was not using my best judgment and that landed me in kitty jail for 10 days for a quarantine, per state regulation.

Oopsie. I am really sorry.

After that I was free to go, and I went! I was a grouch that needed socialization, so Tufts called in the big guns to get me all happy and domesticated: Fitchburg Friends of Felines.

My foster mom calls me Captain Crunch, Crunch A Munch, Honey Bunch, Poofy Wunch... In that order, and admittedly I think it's adorable. I follow her around and she gives me treats. I do get a bit impatient while she's pouring the treats and try to help her by batting them out of the container, but she is forgiving and knows I just love my party mix!

I am a big guy, like 16 lbs, but I squeak like a wimp. It is amusing, I thing. It is like the hulk with a high pitch voice. My voice does not match my body, but maybe that makes me more of a softie.

So here was the challenge: I was feral. And a little, well, independent. So I was reluctant to do anything, including going into a carrier for my doctor appointments. I do need mother's Little helper AKA Gabapentin to chill me out so I could actually get there. But when I did, everything showed I was in great health!

The only thing left for me to do is to get an attitude adjustment. Which, I was a little stubborn with that whole domestication thing.

I have come a long way. Now I'm a little overly nice but just happy aggressive, I guess we will say. I like people now and don't want to stay away. I like getting pet, and exploring my foster's home, and buddying up to cats to play. Some are old fogies and don't want to play. Their loss. I mean, I do play a little rough, so I may need another rough and tumble pal to keep up in my hopefully forever home.

So, I am still working on being chill with the help of another little helper, besides the Gabapentin, I'm on Prozac. I am also a great eater so taking my meds is never a problem. I'm also getting behavioral therapy as well in hopes I will stop having this obsession with her fingers and trying to eat them. I have become so much better about that, thought. I no longer have a desire to chomp on them. Well, maybe occasionally, but I am a slow mover, so my foster mom moves faster.

Other than that, and the fact that I play rough with some of the other kitties at my foster home and try to dominate them which ends up turning into a bit of an argument, all is well!

And about the other cat thing, there are a couple docile cats that I dominate, which my foster has to redirect me. I get really grouchy but she just asks if I want treats, and I forget all about whoozie whatzit that I wanted to fight and go to my room for treats, happily.

My ideal home would be with a patient, cat savvy family that gets I can be a bit overbearing but can be redirected. At the rate I am going, I am sure that happy aggression will continue to fade to just happy.

Children are probably a no just in case they don't get my cues, but I would trust me with adults and big personality, dominant cats. They don't have to be big cats. In fact the little ones are the ones that have put me in my place and we get along just fine. I just need maybe another dominant kitty that can put me in my place, because the nice, sweet, happy, adorable ones fall victim to my aggressive play and admittedly, this is why I'm on Prozac and getting behavior therapy.

I am working through it.

Maybe an empty nester would be good for me, too. I can be flexible. I hope you consider getting to know me!

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family.
