He was adopted to a local couple of July 2016. They loved Burt very much and took very good care of him. They started a family with human children and Burt was showing that he did not like children at all. They are 2 years old and 10 months old, and Burt would go after their legs when they walked by him, things like that. They tried everything to make it work and none of the advice they received helped. We offered more advice, but it was all things they have already tried. As hard as this decision was, they decided for the safely of their children and for Burt's happiness that he needed to come back to the rescue and find a new home without children. Burt is now back with Waverly Pet Rescue. He was already neutered back in 2016, he is current on vaccines, recently tested FeLV/FIV negative, and his recent senior bloodwork shows that he is a very healthy cat.

Burt is now about 10-1/2 years old as of September 2025. Burt was scared when he first came back which is to be expected. But he did settle in quickly and is always looking to be loved on and petted. He is super friendly and affectionate to adults. He would love to be petted all day long if you had the time. He is immediately sweet and wanting to be petted as soon as you meet him by letting him sniff your hand first. As long as you do not have young children or grandchildren that visit often, or a dog, Burt will be a cat that will be your best friend within a few hours and make himself right at home.

He has shown that he needs a home with no children. Maybe teenagers would be ok as long as they know how to be kind to a cat. he does not like dogs. In his past foster home, he did well with other cats. You would set him up in a room alone to start him off and make slow introductions to your cats and he should be ok. He would also be alright as an only cat in the home. If fed good quality food and vet care, Burt could live another 10 years or more! This senior kitty has many years left for him to be your companion. Please consider adopting Burt today!

His adoption fee is $95.00.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office
