She had a litter of kittens and they were born 2/17/2016. Blackfoot and JoeJoe were adopted in May 2016 when they were 3-months old to a very loving couple that were very excited to adopt adorable brother kittens. Fast forward to end of January 2026. Waverly Pet Rescue was contacted by Cedar Bend Humane Society in Waterloo because these boys were surrendered there and their microchip came back to Waverly Pet Rescue. CBHS was hoping we could take them back in as they were terrified to be there and not doing well at all. Went the very next day to pick them up. They are up to date on shots, were previously neutered, and also negative for FeLV/FIV. They are living in a foster home and Waverly Pet Rescue cats. We are grateful to Cedar Bend for contacting us so we could get them back.<br/><br/>Blackfoot and JoeJoe turned 10 years old on 2/17/26. They are sweet sweet boys once you get to know them. When they first went to their foster home, they were scared and hid which is normal and we expected it. They were set up in a quiet room by themselves. They did not eat the first couple of days, but we were relieved when they did eat that 3rd day. We set up hiding places for them with boxes and blankets in their room. That helps cats like this feel safe by having a place they can go and hide. Checked on them several times a day and as long as they are eating, drinking, and using the litter box then all is well. You just talk to them and let them be until they are ready.<br/><br/>In March, Blackfoot started coming out of hiding and was waiting for his breakfast. He decided this human was safe and he did not have to hide from her anymore. In May, JoeJoe was also out waiting for breakfast. JoeJoe decided he could trust her as well. Tears of happiness to have reached this milestone. This long process is normal for cats that have been uprooted from the only life they have ever known. Looked it up online and their mom passed away in 2021. And then their dad passed away early Jan. 2026. Not only were they processing the trauma of being at a shelter, but they were also mourning the loss of their family and their home. Our hearts go out to their previous owners, rest in peace.<br/><br/>Blackfoot is a lot more outgoing and braver than JoeJoe. Joe still hides sometimes but will come out once he knows it is safe. Both are friendly and like to be petted. They are quiet kitties until it is time to eat, lol, then they will let you know they are ready to eat. They are total twins and look a lot alike! You can only tell the difference between them because Blackfoot has a black spot on his foot! They enjoy time together and are very bonded to each other. We are requiring that they get adopted and stay together. They have viewed other cats in the foster home and seemed ok with them but have not actually been around them yet. We do not know how they would be around dogs. Older kind and quiet children would be ok, no young children would be best.<br/><br/>When we got them back, both were obese at over 20 pounds. We have been feeding them only the proper amount of food each day and they are slowly losing weight. It is important that they get back to a healthy weight.<br/><br/>Will need to be adopted to someone that has patience and can give these boys all the time they need to settle in and adjust to a new home. Someone that can set them up in one room alone to start off for at least the first 2 weeks, maybe longer.<br/><br/>Adoption fee is $95.00 each for a total of $180..<br/><br/><br/>WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.<br/>Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office
