Birdie's Story

Meet Birdie – The Cat Who Chose Joy

Quick Facts:
2 years old
Female
Vaccinated, spayed, FeLV/FIV negative
Great with cats, dogs, and respectful children

When Birdie was found over the July 4th weekend, she was barely clinging to life. It was clear she hadn’t always lived outside — she was someone’s pet once. But when she was dumped, she didn’t know how to survive. She’d been attacked, her body was covered in open wounds that were infested with maggots, and she was suffering from painful bladder stones. She also weighed 22 pounds, her body carrying the physical and emotional toll of neglect.

We took Birdie in immediately and got her the care she needed. With emergency treatment, medication, and a special diet, her wounds healed, her bladder stones dissolved, and her spirit returned.

Birdie is now one of our resident thrift store office cats, where she greets visitors, supervises volunteers, and reminds everyone that healing is possible. She has lost weight only because it has helped her feel better and move more comfortably — not because we believe size determines worth. At the Oswego County SPCA, we don’t body shame anyone. Beauty isn’t measured in pounds, and worthiness has nothing to do with size. Birdie is both beautiful and worthy.

She is calm, affectionate, and endlessly forgiving. She loves people, cats, dogs, and even enjoys being held like a baby. After everything she’s been through, Birdie doesn’t live in the past — she’s choosing happiness and looking forward to the future she knows she deserves.

Birdie is two years old, spayed, vaccinated, FeLV/FIV negative, and ready for adoption. She truly is the whole package: resilient, loving, and wonderful in every way.

To help Birdie go From Foster to Forever, apply today at www.oswegocountyspca.org

Important Adoption Information:

When You Submit Your Application:
Please make sure you have notified your veterinarian that we will be calling and that it is okay to speak with us. If you don’t currently have a vet, please determine which one you will be using and set up care in advance so we can confirm your new pet will receive medical attention when needed.

For Pets Already in the Home:
Because the number of homeless animals in our area is so large, we adopt only to homes where current pets are spayed or neutered, with documented medical exceptions. We also require that all resident pets be up to date on their vaccinations to help ensure that everyone — both new and existing family members — stays healthy and safe.

Keep in Mind:
We are 100% foster-based and 100% volunteer-operated, from the top down. Our team works hard to get animals into their forever homes as quickly as possible. Please be patient with us — but if you don’t hear back within a few days, feel free to message us on our Facebook page to confirm your application went through.
