Big Mack's Story

Big Mack earned his nicknames honestly, especially when it is time to check his blood glucose. He was adopted in May of 2025 as an FIV positive adult, but returned to our care when his adopter became ill. During that time, Mack's health also declined, and he was found to be diabetic. When he came back to us, he weighed just 7 pounds and had a horrible dental infection that required multiple extractions.

With consistent care, Big Mack has regained much of his former glory and is now nearly 12 pounds and 2.5 years old. He tolerates blood glucose testing beautifully, especially when food is involved, and he is an absolute dream for insulin injections. He does not flinch at all.

As many diabetic cats are, Big Mack is extremely food motivated. He vocalizes enthusiastically, pats hands, and will even gently nom while waiting for his Fancy Feast Classic Pate to be opened. Thankfully, Fancy Feast Classic Pates are diabetic approved, which makes his care a bit easier!

Big Mack needs an understanding adopter who is comfortable monitoring blood sugar, administering insulin, and maintaining his diet. In return, he offers endless personality, affection, and snack-time enthusiasm. To inquire about adopting this cat please complete an adoption application at tinyurl.com/ccapadoptions

San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition's Adoption Policy
Although our primary mission is to work on feral cat issues, we devote considerable time to adopting out TAME kittens and adult cats. In order to better manage the feral cat population, friendly cats and kittens are removed from the streets, placed with fosters, and spay/neutered before placing them up for adoption. Young kittens born to feral cats are ideally left with their mom until they are ready for weaning. They are then placed in a foster home, socialized, and spayed/neutered prior to being put up for adoption. Our rescued tame cats are all privately fostered in homes throughout the San Antonio metro area.
