Batman's Story

*** Batman is in a foster home. ***

Batman #19694: black & white bicolor, short hair, neutered male, born approx. 1/8/15

Cats: fine
Dogs: calm probably fine
Children: all ages

BACKGROUND: When Batman’s guardian passed away, he was unwanted and for several months only received half-hearted care by family members. By the time he was picked up by his foster, he was in bad shape: skin and bones and covered in his own urine. It was discovered that Batman was diabetic and he was put on insulin. Thankfully with medication, a strict food regimen, close monitoring, and overall TLC, he is now in remission! While he is no longer on daily insulin, his adopter will still need to perform periodic blood glucose tests (Batman is so cooperative!) to make sure everything stays on track. His food routine is working well and must be continued as it is the key to keeping Batman in remission.

PERSONALITY: Batman is very mellow and sweet! This engaging companion kitty is super friendly with visitors and his favorite spot to sleep at night is on the pillow set between his foster parents’ heads. As an older cat, Batman naps a lot, though he’ll nap in the living room despite the daily chaos of a human baby who is now mobile plus multiple resident cats... he just stays out of the way, or chooses to go be a dozing work-buddy in your office (especially if you give him a heated blanket). Batman can jump readily enough even though he doesn’t generally go above a couch or bed height, and doesn’t bother much with playtime except when a whim strikes. He loves to have his head, neck, and back scratched but asks you avoid his belly, legs, paws, and tail. Come mealtime, he perks right up and is always ready to eat (he’ll let you know if you’re late for lunch... or breakfast, or dinner). We suspect that Batman may be hard of hearing, and so his begging meows can get quite loud (he’s earned his nickname of Beg-Man). Given his diabetic history, it is crucial that his humans keep him to a strict meal-plan and not let him sweet-talk you into any snacks that could threaten his remission.

COMPATIBILITY: Batman is comfortable with the friendly adult cats in his foster home; they largely coexist without interacting much. If a calm dog left him alone, he’d probably be fine. He has been okay being around the 1-year-old child in his foster home and just moves out of range when she gets too close. He doesn’t want to be grabbed or roughly-handled but so long as everyone’s respectful then he’s chill.

Batman is so easy to love. He needs an adopter who will love him enough to keep him in good health. Will he become a beloved member of your family and always keep your pillow warm?
