Basalt's Story

Little Basalt and his heart nose!! He couldn’t be cuter. Of the litter, Basalt is the most introspective, and will study his surroundings, a toy, or you deeply before joining his siblings in play. He can be found lounging in bed long after his siblings race around, or wandering around to find a new item to investigate. A seriously sweet and cuddly guy.

Basalt was brought inside during NYCW Climate Week, and the whole litter was named in honor of different climate science, solutions and references.

All kittens must be adopted as a pair, or to a home with another young cat or kitten. This is vital for their socialization and prevents Single Kitten Syndrome.

Basalt is currently ONLY available for foster-to-adopt, because he is still in the process of being vetted, scheduled to be complete on 11/6. Kittens must weigh 3 lbs before these can be done, hence the November neuter surgery appointment.

We do not adopt animals out until they are fully vetted, meaning vaccinated, spayed/neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV, and microchipped.

Basalt is already clear of parasites and fleas, and has half of his vaccines completed. A foster-to-adopter will work with the rescue to transport to 1-2 appointments, and once vetting is final, formal adoption paperwork would be signed.

Backyard Cats of Bed-Stuy's Adoption Policy
I ask that everyone interested in adopting a cat from me starts the application process by filling out my adoption application! The more details you can provide, the better. You can find the app here: https://www.backyardcatsofbedstuy.com/adoption-application Once I've received your application, if I'm interested in moving forward I'll reach out to schedule a Zoom call (or sometimes an in-person meeting, where possible). I often have the foster join as well to talk more specifically about each cat's personality and needs. If the meet-and-greet goes well, and if requested, the potential adopter can arrange a time to meet the cat(s) at their foster homes, or they can start out with a trial "foster-to-adopt" period of one month, to make sure it is a good fit for both cats and humans. A cat isn't considered "fully adopted" until they have been through proper vetting (spayed or neutered, given rabies and FVRCP vaccines, tested for FeLV and FIV, microchipped, and dewormed and treated for fleas). I love to stay in touch with my adopters and often receive updates about their new pets thriving in their forever homes!
