They must go home either together or to a home with another energetic cat/kitten. Here’s what their foster volunteer says about them:

How would you describe the cat's general personality?

Barq and Dr. Pepp are your typical kittens! Full of energy and chaos and sweetness. Barq is more confident and outgoing, always willing to meet new people and experiences. Dr. Pepp is a bit more shy and may need some time to come out of his shell.

Does the cat enjoy being pet?

Yes, they both love getting pets and scritches.

If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?

Dr. Pepp especially loves butt scritches, but they both seem to love pets almost anywhere.

Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?

I haven't tried the belly much, but they will take it as a sign you want to play and your hands are toys.

Does the cat come on your lap?

Yup, they will both try to end up on my lap or belly at the same time sometimes and take that as a sign to start wrestling.

Does the cat like to be held?

They seem tolerant of it and will start purring, but they will let you know when they're done.

Does the cat sleep in your bed?

Sometimes.

Does the cat seek your attention?

Yup, they will yowl for attention.

Does the cat like to play?

They're kittens. Definitely.

What are the cat's favorite games and toys?

They seem to love a bit of everything. Wand toys are some of the most effective, but they enjoy playing with static cat toys and will growl at each other sometimes.

How vocal is the cat?

They are both pretty vocal.

What kinds of sounds does the cat make?

They will cry for attention from both me and each other.

Does the cat scratch a scratcher?

Yes.

Does the cat always use the litter box?

Yes, mostly. There was an incident early on when Dr. Pepp was still a bit afraid of me where I was scooping the litter box and he decided to pee in my laundry instead. I also had issues with peeing on my bed when the whole family (mom, Barq and Dr. Pepp, and two siblings) first arrived, but moving a litter box into the bedroom seemed to have fixed it.

What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?

They have been free feeding on Purina One kitten kibble and I give them a can of wet food a day.

Is the cat picky about food?

They seem to prefer the kibble to the wet food, but they'll eat both.

What is the cat's favorite treat?

Barq loves Churu, but Dr. Pepp doesn't seem interested. Some of the dry treats they've had mixed reactions to.

Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?

Yeah, they will occasionally swat at my hands while in my lap because they think it's a toy or something to play with. They will occasionally go after my feet the same way.

Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?

Yeah, for similar reasons as above. They also seemed to be curious if my pants are scratching posts, so they've tried that, too. They also like climbing my legs, which can cause scratches.

Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?

They sometimes try if you pet them while they're overstimulated.

Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?

Nope.

To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?

Barq is a social butterfly. He might hide a bit at first, but then almost immediately comes back out to meet people. Dr. Pepp is the shy one. He will hide and be more cautious around new people, but he's getting more confident by the day and interaction!

If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on?

They both got along great with their siblings and mom, but they are kittens, so that's probably to be expected.

Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?

Not really. They're just sweet, cuddly, energetic kittens. They love to cuddle and play with each other as well.

In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?

They are delightful and silly to have around, full of affection and energy.

What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?

Since they are kittens, they're still learning what is and isn't for playing with. They may also wake you up too early with their energy. Just make sure they get lots of toys and playtime, and they should be delightful to have around.

To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.
