Barney's Story
Meet Barney, a sweet but very nervous little brown tabby who is looking for a patient and experienced adopter. Barney is just a little over 2.5 years old and has had a rough start in life. He was left behind after an eviction and spent some time outdoors before coming to the shelter. As a result, he’s an independent cat who is still adjusting to indoor life. Barney is food motivated, which is a great way to win his trust. He has lived with other cats and is curious about them, so he might do well in a multi-cat household. However, Barney is very cautious when it comes to people. He’s still a bit under-socialized, so he is not the cuddly, lap cat you might hope for right now, and it may take months for him to start seeking affection. Because of his history as an outdoor cat, Barney is still quite nervous and may try to run outside if given the chance. He needs an adult-only home with an adopter who understands that will need a quiet and calm home, where he can go at his own pace If you think you can offer Barney the calm and quiet space he needs, he might just be the right companion for you—though it will require time, commitment, and patience.

If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:
E: Adoption@hempsteadny.gov
E: Foster@hempsteadny.gov
E: Rescue@hempsteadny.gov
T. 516.785.5220
#upforadoption #longislandanimals #shelteranimalsrock #takemehome #animalshelter #newyorkdogsandcats #nyc #longisland #cuteanimals #animaloftheday #tabbycat
