Barnaby's Story

Name: Barnaby
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Sex: Neutered Male
Age: 7 years
Weight: 11 lbs
Animal Number: 4606

Chill, Calm, Comfy Cozy, Quiet Kitty - Has Medical Needs

Good with dogs? Barnaby would likely prefer a home without dogs, or with a gentle dog who respects his space.

Good with cats? Barnaby would be happy as an only kitty, because he absolutely loves petting and attention, but could possibly live with another chill cat who would just like to co-exist.

Good with kids? Not Tested, but he would likely be fine with gentle, older kids who do not make loud noises or fast movements.

Energy Level: Low. Barnaby has no desire to play with toys. He loves snuggling up inside something, like a bathroom cabinet or cave bed, or curling up on a soft blanket on an office chair. He does look out the window and moves around easily, but acts like an old soul with no reason to hurry.

Medical Needs: Barnaby is FIV+. FIV is a feline-only retrovirus that affects a cat’s immune system. He is currently asymptomatic and in good health, and feels tremendously better after having had a dental! An adopter should be aware that FIV can make a cat more vulnerable to other medical issues because their immune system is not as strong as an FIV negative cat. FIV is not transferable to humans or dogs and can only be transferred to other cats through a deep cat bite.

Animal Characteristics: Barnaby is a chill, calm, quiet kitty who never had a home, love or safety until he reached his foster. He’s an adorable pig-bat-cat gremlin marshmallow with the chubbiest cheeks! He will look at you with all the love he has to offer, but will not offer you any thoughts, since he’s simply amazed at his good fortune. He loves being petted on his face and back, and will flop over and make happy air biscuits. He will make a soft “coo” sound like a dove when he purrs. If he’s had enough, he’ll let you know with obvious body language.

Barnaby is shy at first, but thrives with the right people. An adopter who gives him time to warm up and then gently encourages him to interact may find that Barnaby becomes a stage 5 clinger! Barnaby needs an adopter who wants to love on a cat that’s never had love before. He needs an adopter who will be his advocate and champion, who believes in him and reaches out to draw him out of his shell until he’s king of the home. He needs someone who wants to SAVE a cat and keep him warm, clean, healthy and fed. Barnaby needs an adopter who wants to dote on a baby without any expectations of a cat that wants to play or zoom around the house. Barnaby wants safety and a soft spot to spend his day. He wants sun spots, a warm comfy blanket, or maybe even a cozy bed in front of a fireplace. He will reward the person who offers all of this love and care to him with endless love and will exude how grateful he is at every turn!

Please learn more about the adoption process and fill out an application at www.pawsco.org/adopt/adoption-process. My adoption fee is $125. You can also contact my friends at PawsCo at adopt@pawscoadoptions.org if you have questions. I look forward to meeting you!
