Bandit's Story

Meet Bandit!

Bandit is a 8 year old, domestic short hair neutered male cat looking for a home to begin his new journey.
Bandits not a robber but he will try to steal your heart!
He came to us on a 4 month WUO quarantine.

Are you looking for a roommate who minds his business, pays rent in purrs, and has the vibe of a tiny retired librarian? Meet this salt-and-pepper sweetheart. With his distinguished frosted coat and calm demeanor, he carries himself like a gentleman who has absolutely never rushed for anything in his life. He prefers the finer things: cozy naps, gentle affection, and observing household happenings with mild but loving judgment. He’s the perfect companion for anyone seeking a laid-back cat with maximum charm and minimum chaos.

When he first arrived he was quite a shy boy who has since started to show his true colors as he warmed up to us. He is now very friendly and loves to get attention and pets from the staff.
Bandit will probably take a bit of time to adjust to a new home as he is still shy in new situations. Bandit can live with another cat, calm cat savvy dog, and older cat savvy kids.
He is a very quiet and stoic boy who loves to give headbutts.

What the heck is a WUO? WUO stands for Wound of Unknown Origin. In Massachusetts, a domestic animal (like a dog or cat) with a wound of unknown origin (presumed to be from another animal) is generally subject to a quarantine period of FOUR MONTHS to observe for signs of rabies. During that time the pet must be kept in strict confinement and only rabies vaccinated personnel are allowed contact. We still give them love every day and enrichment to keep their brains working, they also get out of cage time to stretch their legs.

While in our care he was tested for FIV/FeLV and he has tested FIV Positive.
Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is a virus specific to the cat family. It attacks and weakens the immune system and there is no cure. Cats who are kept indoors on a healthy diet with regular vet care can live a normal life expectancy. FIV-positive cats can live long fulfilling lives. Casual, non-aggressive contact does not appear to be an efficient route of spreading the virus. As a result, cats in households with stable social structures where housemates do not fight are at little risk of acquiring FIV infections.

If Bandit sounds like good fit for your home please feel free to reach out to us or come in person to meet him!

Our shelter is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12-4 (closed Mondays). If you are interested in this pet, please review our adoption process at www.lowellhumanesociety.org/adoption/#process and email adopt@lowellhumanesociety.org to set up a time to meet this guy.
