Asher's Story

Asher is a sweet but shy little guy. He was rescued from the streets as a feral kitten at around 8 weeks old. Asher is now around 16 weeks (as of 1/26/26). He is up-to-date on his vaccines, neutered, microchipped, and he tested negative for FeLV/FIV. Asher has also been dewormed and is current on flea preventative.

Having originally grown up outside with his mother and two siblings and having little to no contact with people, Asher is slow to warm up. It has only been within the past couple of weeks that he is now allowing for, sometimes asking for, and enjoying pets from people. He does absolutely hate to be picked up though.

Asher currently shares space with 5 other cats and 2 cat-savvy and respectful dogs. He absolutely loves other cats and in particular he has bonded with our rescue, Houdini. Early on after arriving to the rescue, Asher decided to adopt Houdini as his foster father and they are often observed snuggling together, grooming each other, or playing together. Asher also enjoys playing with the other younger cats both rescue and resident.

Being as Asher is a very social and affectionate boy with other cats in addition to gaining confidence from other felines sharing his space, Asher would do best in a home with at least one other cat if not more. If there is also one or two cat-savvy, respectful, and gentle dogs, he would coexist with them just fine. However, Asher is easily startled and requires a slow, calm approach from people, thus he would not do well in a home with children.

His favorite toys include coils, kitty boinks (aka finger trap toys), kitty dancers, laser pointers (in moderation), and catnip toys. Super loud toys can startle him. Asher is also good about using scratching pads and posts.

Important to Note: While Asher is amazing about using the litter box to defecate, he still has accidents via peeing outside the box. However, it's explicitly on cloth material that can be found on the ground (i.e., dirty laundry, fallen towels). We have been working with Asher to break this habit, but it is a work in progress. We highly recommend his adopter be vigilant about keeping fabric items off the floor while he adjusts to a new home in addition to minimizing the space he has access to in the beginning (which we recommend anyway to help reduce stress during a transition between homes). All the rescues currently use pine pellet bedding for litter.

Asher is still strictly on a kitten diet to ensure healthy development. He receives both dry and wet food daily.
