Artemis (bonded with Athena)'s Story

Artemis: Brave Little Guardian Seeking a Quiet Home for Herself and Her Sister

Hi, I'm Artemis! I'm a petite black cat, approx. 1.5 yrs old, who was rescued from a cat colony with my sister, Athena. Since we were rescued from a rough life on the street, we've lived in comfy foster homes, learning that indoor life can mean full food bowls, comfortable perches, interesting windows, and kind humans who respect us and our boundaries.

Athena and I are an inseparable team. I'm the braver, more protective sister, so you'll often find me sitting or walking in front of her like a tiny feline bodyguard. I help her feel safe, and she is my constant companion. We are definitely bonded and must be adopted together. In fact, my sister Athena and I are so close that we sometimes walk with our tails twirled together. It's our kitty version of holding hands.

I'm cautious around people, but I've been making wonderful progress. I've begun leaving my hideaway more often, exploring the foster area independently, and spending time out in the open while my foster is nearby. I'm still not quite ready to be a lap cat or accept a lot of petting just yet, but I do enjoy gentle company and communicate with slow blinks (that's the cat version of quietly saying I like your company.)

I'm an intelligent little girl. I'm also curious and an astute observer. Give me a perch by a window, and I'll happily monitor the birds and backyard wildlife. I especially love when my foster mom sings to me. I may be reserved, but apparently I'm also a keen patron of the arts.

Athena and I are healthy, spayed, vaccinated, and reliable about using our litter box. We need a quiet home with a patient, cat-savvy adopter who understands that trust cannot be rushed. We may do well with another gentle cat, but dogs and young children would likely be too overwhelming for us. We will also need continued socialization as we settle in.

If you can celebrate small victories—a longer slow blink, a brave step out of hiding, or the first time we choose to remain nearby—you may eventually earn something truly special: the love of two gentle cats who have learned that you are safe.

Please remember that Athena comes with me - she's my sister, my best friend, and the other half of my courage.

Personality traits: Brave, curious, gentle, independent, loyal, protective, quiet, smart, cautious, window lover, bird watcher, music lover, slow-blink specialist

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family. This ensures that your feline companion is the perfect fit as well as provides support as you both transition into your new life together.

You can fill out an adoption application here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe1685w60NjfU2eeE55Cd57TAaEZU7bERjyY825EMto48sTQw/viewform

Please reach out to Fitchburg Friends of Felines directly at 978-222-3170 or fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com with questions. Fitchburg Friends of Felines, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Potential adopters are required to have a solid character reference, vet reference, and a site visit which can be conducted virtually. Due to MA regulations, we cannot intake pets from out of state. We offer a foster to adopt program to guarantee the intended kitty is a good fit for your family. We also require that all adopters agree to return the kitty should the adopter no longer be able to care for him or her in the future, or an agreed to person is identified to continue care for this kitty. We are not a brick and mortar; all available cats are kept in foster homes. Therefore, we would need time to schedule a visit to meet a kitty. We are happy to travel to match the perfect kitty for your family. Our adoption fees are normally $250 per cat, $350 for specialty breeds or exotics, and $50 less per kitty if interested in multiples. For specific questions, or for an adoption application, please feel free to reach out to us directly: fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com or call our hotline: 978-222-3170
