Amanda needs a home that can appreciate her as an individual, and also be mindful of her back story. Folks who truly know and love cats, and cat personalities, would be the best candidates for giving this girl a loving forever home. By the people who know her best, after caring for her for many months, she is described as a pretty independent gal. She needs to be able to warm up to people on her terms and given plenty of space to be alone. She MIGHT in time learn to snuggle up on a couch or bed with someone once she's comfortable but she's definitely not your clingy velcro cat. She's actually very funny but plenty spicy and just needs TIME to acclimate to a new home. <br/><br/>Amanda has been fostered by a dog training center and day care who has a long relationship with Illinois Humane and graciously has kept some space in their facility for rescue cats available for adoption. So she has been living in a bit if a business environment, albeit with loving caregivers. Amanda would do fine in a home with a well behaved dog and someone who knows how to control said dog and allow Amanda to get used to the environment more on her terms. She's learned to really like some of the daycare dogs that come in. But they are on a leash and expected to be mannerly when interacting with her. <br/><br/>Amanda came into Sangamon County Animal Control as a very young cat in 2021 right at the time of a distemper outbreak. She was one of the cats recovered from the facility at the time by Illinois Humane in the hope of allowing them to avoid the disease. She got the sniffles, but never broke out badly with the disease. She was vaccinated asap upon intake, with repeated timely vaccine updates since. She is a very healthy girl today. So, she has been with us for quite some time, but not in a home environment. However, she does need a home, and in the right home, this beautiful girl will ultimately be an entertaining, occasionally affectionate, wonderful addition to a cat aficionado’s household.
