Allie's Story
Allie has a complicated story. We were told that her original owner in Terlingua became homeless, and then she was adopted by a mature man who lived with another cat. The second man recently passed away with no family and few friends. His neighbor took Allie and her housemate in the short term, but Allie can be a bully to other cats, and had been bullying her housemate and the neighbor's cats.
The neighbor reached out to us, and we agreed to take them in.
We had her drop them off at the vet, so that the bereaved kitties could get their exam and vaccines before they got to the Cattery.
Allie was very stressed at the vet, scratched the vet tech, and needed to be sedated to be handled. The neighbor could pet her all over and said that she slept with her.
When Allie first arrived with us in mid-May of 2025, she wasn't happy and was lashing out. We are sure she missed her owner and her familiar environment.
We began using Feliway calming pheromone spray, and our board member, Sara Cash, has been sending her calming energy through Reiki. Allie has seemed a bit more content lately; she is out on her perch more, talks to us, and enjoys her canned food. She doesn't like us moving her belongings, and will sometimes take a swipe at us during cleaning.
Now, a year later, Allie follows the staff around, demands attention and snacks, and hardly ever takes a swipe.
She will need an experienced cat person who is willing to give her the time and space she needs to decompress and won't push her to be affectionate before she is ready. A quiet and stable household without other pets would be ideal.
If you are interested in this complicated kitty, call 432-837-2532 or come by Alpine Humane Society Thrift Store and Cattery, 706 N 5th St, Alpine, TX 79830
