Albus's Story

Albus: Walmart Greeter, dog trapped in a cat's body

Albus's story: I was born in a farmhouse, and have always been a house cat, although my mom was an indoor/outdoor kitty. My brother was a little behind me by a few months in the next litter by the same mom, and we were reunited about 7 months later, and he is the only other kitty I knew until I went to Fitchburg Friends of Felines.

My brother and I didn't get along that great, as he is a happy aggressor, and I am not. I had no issues starting a fight with him, but then I get wimpy and regret what I started.

So, I seem to adjust personalities to my environments.

I went to FFF and met this kitty there, and he was cool. He was a bit hyper, but we got along and he was not aggressive. And there are these other kitties I was introduced to that were cool. So, if you have a kitty who is not a jerk, all is well.

With my original family, I was a bit of an anxious kitty. I didn't like to be alone for long. I was okay wiith waiting patiently for your return at the end of a workday, but I was not big on change. My family went on vaca, and I was a bit destructive when they were gone, even with the sitter.

My family told FFF that if I am being ignored, I am happy to knock over a plant or scratch up furniture until you notice me.

Fortunately, I have yet to show that side to my foster family and they see me a bit differently.

In fact, I am apparently a bit of a Jackal and Hyde. Even with my medical issues.

When my family would travel, I started pooping outside of the box and was constipated. When my family got back, I did not stop the behavior, even though they tried extra litter boxes. My family would put me right in the litterbox, but I would hold it until I could escape, then left a little gem elsewhere.

I would regirgutate my food within 20 minutes of me eating as well.

I was diagnosed with IBD. An ultrasound a couple years ago showed no parasites, nor issues. There was no pancreatitis or thickening of the intestinal walls, or lymphoma. It was weird to them.

So, I was passed around a bit. I went to a family with a couple young kids, but I still pooped. So then I was given to a lady who tried chicken, then removed chicken and she did this holistic diet thing. The holistic lady gave me whitefish and rabbit and I was being treated with Chinese medicine for the past 2 months. There was like a 4 month wait to even be seen, but after a couple months, the holistic lady decided I was a no-go and again returned me to the family since I was still throwing up daily so it was a lot of clean up work. The constipation was pretty much under control, but the regurgitation issue got worse.

So, the family contacted the vet and in I went. The vets mentioned Fitchburg Friends of Felines as an opportunity for me to find a new home and get better, and my family agreed.

So, I have only been with my new family a short time, and they are seeing absolutely none of my stomach issues. At all. None. Zippo. I am fine.

They also have no kids.

Maybe it was stress?

I am fine. In fact, thriving!

Oh, I may be due for a dental as well. The vet is going to follow up with me regarding. Fitchburg Friends of Felines is on it and will fix me up!

Let's talk personality! So, my old families... all of them... agree that I was great with kids, from infancy to age 6. I was around before the mini human showed up with my old family, and I was fine with him, I guess. But that is when the medical issues with constipation was happening, so maybe I wasn't. I then went to another family with a couple young kids, and my improper pooping and constipation continued. So, maybe kids stress me out? I am a cat, so I am not going to tell you what is going on in my head.

At the new place, wow! I am loving life, lounging, watching cat TV. I love trying to get at the birds on the TV. It is rather amusing.

I am polite with nail trims. I am not a picker upper, but love laps and can help myself up, thank you.

I loved windows and watching the birds at the old place, and I am a total snuggle bug.

So, at the old family's home I would come on the bed each AM for cuddle time. I was not an early riser, and would wait until I could hear movement to go an invite myself into the room.

I am a curious type. I love play time, as much as I can get, in fact. I love to follow my humans around like a dog. I believe I was a dog in a past life. I am a chirper and a chatty Cathy. My owners would not say I yelled at them, but I was talkative. I am happy to be vocal when it is meal time, and after meal time, I will vocalize that it now play time.

Toys are great, as long as they are attached to a human. Love the wand toys, especially the mice attached to a string, and the tiny mice with rattle on them, especially when you toss them up the stairs. It is a really good workout! That is my version of the Jane Fonda!

I am not a big hider. I prefer to lounge across the top of the couch if by the window. I am not afraid to take up space.

I am an on the clock type with food. I would get fed 3 times daily, so I would be on my owners when it was mealtime. At the new place, 6AM, I am ready and will let you know I am willing to accept my first meal of the day.

I am a chill type of guy in general as long as I have my peeps around me. If I am bored, then I pace and meow for attention so you know it is time to play.

My ideal home would probably be with a retired person or a work from home type, or someone at home daily and is a 9-5er who is looking for a high maintenance companion who will need brushing daily and plenty of play time and cuddle time. I don't seem to mind dogs and cats, so as long as they do not take away from my love time, that works great.

Kids, I am thinking no. I am having great success... well... without those things.

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family. This ensures that your feline companion is the perfect fit as well as provides support as you both transition into your new life together.

You can fill out an adoption application here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe1685w60NjfU2eeE55Cd57TAaEZU7bERjyY825EMto48sTQw/viewform

Please reach out to Fitchburg Friends of Felines directly at 978-222-3170 or fitchburgfriendsoffelines@gmail.com with questions. Fitchburg Friends of Felines, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Potential adopters are required to have a solid character reference, vet reference, and a site visit which can be conducted virtually. Due to MA regulations, we cannot intake pets from out of state. We offer a foster to adopt program to guarantee the intended kitty is a good fit for your family. We also require that all adopters agree to return the kitty should the adopter no longer be able to care for him or her in the future, or an agreed to person is identified to continue care for this kitty. We are not a brick and mortar; all available cats are kept in foster homes. Therefore, we would need time to schedule a visit to meet a kitty. We are happy to travel to match the perfect kitty for your family. Our adoption fees are normally $250 per cat, $350 for specialty breeds or exotics, and $50 less per kitty if interested in multiples.
