Akela and Baloo (bonded siblings)'s Story
Meet Baloo & Akela — Brother and sister looking for a home together

Baloo and Akela are almost 3 months old and were found without their mom when they were very young. They came into foster care as part of a group of four kittens and have been busy learning all about toys, treats, other cats, and people.

Baloo is a beautiful little gray girl with the sweetest, most expressive eyes. She's a little shy at first, but she's bright, curious and playful. She loves toys—especially strings and plastic springs—and she's definitely not shy when it's time to eat! Baloo has a surprisingly big voice for such a little kitten and makes the cutest noises to remind you that dinner is coming. She often looks to her person for reassurance, almost as if she's asking, “Am I being a good girl?” And yes, Baloo, you are.

Akela is our handsome little black boy and the more sensitive of the two. When he first arrived in foster care, his favorite strategy was to hide whenever a person entered the room. But every day, he's becoming a little braver. Now he hangs back and watches to see what's happening before deciding to join in—and if wet food or Churu treats are involved, he may suddenly become much more courageous!

Akela absolutely loves other cats. He follows his foster family's young resident cat around and seems to gain confidence from watching and being near other felines. He's still learning to trust human touch. At this point, he'll allow some petting while he's eating, but he's not yet comfortable being picked up or handled like some other kittens. His future family will need to give him patience, consistency and the freedom to build trust at his own pace.

We would love to see Baloo and Akela adopted together. They aren't inseparable cuddle buddies, but Akela benefits greatly from having another cat around. Moving to a new home will be a big transition for him, and having Baloo—a familiar friend he's grown up with—can give him confidence and stability while he continues learning that people are safe.

Baloo will bring the personality, the adorable dinner announcements and those beautiful eyes. Akela will bring the quiet little victories that make you celebrate every new step of trust. Together, we think they'll make a very special pair for someone willing to give them the loving home they deserve.

If you're looking for two kittens to grow with—and you're willing to give one sensitive little boy the time he needs—Baloo and Akela may be waiting for you.

For more information and instructions on how to apply, please visit https://thepetrefuge.org/adopt/ Completing an adoption application is always the first step.
