Zagnut *local Midwest adoption only*'s Story
Meet Zagnut, a precious senior pigeon! This beautiful white boy with distinctive black wing markings was found by a local animal control and quickly transferred to GLPR for emergency care because Zagnut was in critical condition.
When Zagnut arrived, he was emaciated and suffering from neuro trauma that caused his head to tilt to the right, a pose he still has today as a permanent reminder of what he survived. His left leg had an untreated fracture, just above the ankle joint, that had healed in such a way that his leg is permanently at a 90-degree angle outwards from his body. His right wing was scabbed from using it to balance himself as he struggled to stay upright with his challenging legs and neurological issues. Zagnut spent months in the loving care of volunteer Susan, who became his dedicated caregiver and savior! Susan hand-fed Zagnut until he regained his strength to eat, stand, and walk on his own. Susan’s devotion gave Zagnut his life back!
Today, Zagnut is a precious, gentle, appreciative, loving bird! Zagnut still has his permanent head tilt to the right, his left leg still sticks out at that 90-degree angle, and he still navigates the world a bit differently than other birds, but none of that has diminished his beautiful spirit! After being hand-fed back to health and receiving such devoted care, Zagnut seems to genuinely understand how lucky he is and how much he’s been helped. His loving, gentle nature shows that gratitude every single day.
Zagnut is looking for a forever home that will appreciate his gentle senior spirit, accommodate his unique physical needs, and continue showing him the love and patience that Susan gave him.
If you’re ready to give a gentle, appreciative, loving senior pigeon the forever home he’s earned through months of recovery and determination, Zagnut is ready to bring his sweet presence into your life! Zagnut may have a tilted head and a wonky leg, but his heart is perfectly whole and full of love to give!
