Winnie's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hatch Date: approx 2015
Meet Winnie, a senior female budgie. She is approximately 10 years old. Winnie is a calm, fairly quiet bird who spends most of her time in her house. Winnie might venture out if a piece of millet is placed on the door and the door is opened. If this occurs, blankets or other soft material should be placed on the floor. If she’s startled, she may fall off because she is not flighted nor hand-tamed.

She likes to hang out on her various perches. Although quiet, she will chirp along when bird sounds are played on YouTube or if the other birds in her foster parents’ house are chirping. She also likes to hear music play, especially if she’s left alone during the day.

While Winnie is used to a calm household (i.e. small children, other animals), she doesn’t seem to be bothered by the dog in her foster home.

She has a UVB light shining on her for the better part of the day to help promote vitamin D production, as per veterinary recommendation .This was recommended because Winnie sometimes has an issue with grabbing and holding onto her perch.

She also had a fatty mass, which was most likely due to an all-seed diet. She is now on a healthy pellet diet with just a small bit of seeds mixed in. Her foster family has also introduced her to apples, grapes, and cooked carrots, which she tries but leaves most. As previously stated, she enjoys a small piece of millet either hung on the door or placed in her bowl. She has two water bowls because she uses one to bathe in.

At night, Winnie’s house gets mostly covered, leaving a small area open for some light to shine in. This is done because if she gets a night fright and falls off her perch, this helps her to climb back up.

Winnie has been disease tested for chlamydia and PBFD.

Winnie is being fostered in Manahawkin, NJ. We do not ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and eastern PA. As our adoptable birds are living in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits.
If interested in adopting Winnie, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org
Please read our adoption policies, fees and complete an adoption application.
