Tully's Story

Tully is a 33 year old Congo African grey. She was with the same person all her life until they died recently. She had never had labwork or DNA testing done - that's always our first step when birds enter our system. She is in relatively great health except for a little bit of heart disease, which is so common for many captive birds these days, especially greys. Without sufficient cardiovascular activity, they have trouble just like us. So she is on Isoxsuprine, a common heart med and she takes it without any problem.

Like so many greys, she whistles and makes noises. Shredding things is her favorite activity, you go girl! She is also playing with wood blocks. We think this increased activity is giving her a chance to sprout some new feathers. Of course, we'll love her regardless of her feather condition :-)

And her foster family is giving her a wonderful array of veggies. This is sure to improve her physical and mental health!

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots.

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events

Phoenix Landing Foundation's Adoption Policy
Understanding the attributes of various parrot species is important. It is also essential to make sure that the personal connection between each individual parrot and the adopting family is just right. We want our families and birds to succeed for many years. The first step is to send an application, begin talking with us, and attend our educational seminars. Our goal is to help each parrot find stability and the best possible place to call home. We want to set you and a bird up for success, this is why in most cases we prefer to do a home visit. This usually happens after you join us for a class, and before a bird is placed.
