Tiki and Chico's Story

Two less common Amazon species have come together from separate places to forge a friendship. After prior adoptions, they met in 2017 and have enjoyed company together since. They share a cage and appreciate spaciousness. Sometimes they sit together, but they're more friends than mates. Nice to have a BFF!

Chico is male and is a wild caught Mealy Amazon. That means he was legally imported into the United States before 1992; so we don't know his exact age. In his first Phoenix Landing home, he made good friends with a little sun conure. Having birds friends is a natural drive for a prey animal.

Tiki is a male Panama Amazon. He came to us in 2007 from a Virginia shelter where a divorcing couple left him behind. Once he joined Chico's last Phoenix Landing family, Tiki and Chico became good friends. So of course, we'd like to see them find their next home together.

The best kind of home for them would be someone who mainly appreciates their boisterous Amazon antics, and has no expectations of touching. We don't have to physically interact to have a magical relationship.

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption process, which includes an application and completion of one of online core classes.

Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, many other birds are waiting for our help and are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family too. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots.

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. Phoenix Landing Foundation's Adoption Policy
Understanding the attributes of various parrot species is important. It is also essential to make sure that the personal connection between each individual parrot and the adopting family is just right. We want our families and birds to succeed for many years. The first step is to send an application, begin talking with us, and attend our educational seminars. Our goal is to help each parrot find stability and the best possible place to call home. We want to set you and a bird up for success, this is why in most cases we prefer to do a home visit. This usually happens after you join us for a class, and before a bird is placed.
