Tano's Story

Tano is named for Ahsoka Tano, the Jedi who survived everything the galaxy threw at her and walked out still standing. The name earns itself. Tano was found with his right foot bound in embedded string and debris, wound so tightly it fractured his ankle and lower leg in several places and left nerve damage that keeps him from flexing his toes. This is stringfoot: hair, thread, and litter snag around a pigeon's foot and slowly choke off circulation, and it's one of the worst things that happens to birds living close to people. His wounds have healed, but his foot will never grip a perch again.

He does not appear to have noticed. Or more likely, he's noticed and decided it's beneath him. Tano is fearless, playing with his foster family and following the action around the room with a great deal to say about all of it. Ahsoka's master called her "Snips" for her mouth, and Tano earns the nickname honestly, narrating his entire day to anyone within earshot. Under the flight suit he's classic pigeon handsome, and he wears his pigeon pants — currently black with neon-rainbow squiggles — like he chose them himself.

What he needs is gentle, social life. Soft surfaces for that foot (the reigning favorite is the couch), flat cushioned footing instead of round perches, and nothing tall and narrow enough to fall from. Give him that, plus a household that doesn't mind being talked at, and Tano will run the place like it was always his.

He fought his way out of the worst of it. All he's looking for now is somewhere soft to land!
